How long is their contract to stay in the city? Was it extended past the original date?

Nevermind, found it. 2023

I wonder what will happen after that (to the RG, etc)?

I have a suspicion Paul Allen and the Vulcans are going to hold the city's feet to the fire on this one. When the team was (supposedly) struggling financially, the city refused to re-negotiate the contract. Paul can be vindictive when he thinks someone screwed him over (just ask Kevin Pritchard and Rich Cho).

The only good news is Allen owns the Rose Garden. So, he likely doesn't want to see it vacant. Still, if the city doesn't capitulate, he may just say fuck you, move the team and tell the people of Portland he hopes they enjoy multiple engagements of Disney on Ice.

I think the team is signed to play in Portland until 2025, but the contract/obligation for playing in the RG is only until 2023.

So...not sure what that means.

I'm not sure there's much to negotiate with the city tho, he owns the arena. if he wants to stay he will.

That contract means nothing, lol.

What is it, a $40 mill penalty if the team moves? If someone buys the team for a billion dollars they can handle the $40 mill. And that's assuming the city would even put up a fight. All the NBA would have to say is if you fight the move we won't ever give you an expansion team.

If that was the case, the team would already be gone.

Go where? I think the NFL's rule of not allowing someone to own 2 different franchises in the same city is what has kept PA from moving the team to Seattle. The only city right now that is in play is Las Vegas but everyone is waiting to see how hockey and football do there.

Blazers home crowd is hard to duplicate....even when they lose..I don't see Paul ever relocating them

We will burn Seattle to the fucking ground if the Blazers move there.

It's bullshit that Lillard isn't an all star.

- Blazer fans

If the Blazers move to Seattle then Lillard becomes an all star.
