What's with RoCo?

0 points from our starting power forward last night? Unacceptable.

Neil traded the pick that Detroit (via Hou) used on Stewart for RoCo.

We could use some of that unhinged aggression from Stewart than whatever this is that RoCo is giving the team.
The two picks ended up being:
#16 in 2020, which could have netted us:
16. Isaiah Stewart
17. Aleksej Pokusevski
19. Saddiq Bey
20. Precious Achiuwa
21. Tyrese Maxey
22.Zeke Nnaji
24. RJ Hampton
25. Immanuel Quickley
26. Payton Pritchard
30. Desmond Bane

And #23 in 2021, at which were available:
23. Usman Garuba
25. Quentin Grimes
26. "Bones" Hyland
27. Cameron Thomas
32. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl
35. Herbert Jones
38. Ayo Dosunmu

If you want to torture yourself, pick the best two player we could've got. It's got to be Saddiq Bey/Tyrese Maxey/Desmond Bane and Herb Jones, I reckon.

Most likely, Covington has experienced age-related collapse. Not every player experiences a nice, gradual decline through their mid-30s. Some players just fall off a cliff, sometimes earlier than you might expect. I don't think he suddenly stopped caring, especially since he's still being counted on for major minutes.

I don't buy it. Tim Duncan was a great defender right up to the end, when he was hobbling around on one leg. PJ Tucker is one of the oldest players in the league and still a great defender. It would be different if RoCo's defense was "athletic man-to-man" style, but it isn't - he's always been known as an average man-to-man, elite help defender. So my guess is that it's more to do with Chauncey using him wrong.

That would be great proof if every player were a clone of each other and they all experienced their declines identically at identical ages. That's not the case, though.

So you're saying RoCo has the NBA version of progeria? Otherwise, can you name anyone similar who dropped off a cliff at age 30?

Oh, I thought he was 33. My mistake. 30-31 is a little harder to chalk up to age.

Gerald Wallace; Jerome Kersey (might have just been minutes/game)
Both famously super-athletic, and one of them literally nicknamed "Crash". I'd also wager all the money I don't have both of them had significantly more minutes on them by the time they hit 30. Don't forget, RoCo wasn't really an NBA player until a few years after college. I think Wallace was among league leaders in minutes played when he was the Bobcats' star player.

Based on this, seems like RoCo doesn’t like Chauncey

"Chauncey rides RoCo like no other, talks real with Nurk (not harsh, but not coddling), and is quick to trust his assistants judgement."

Sounds like he is really tough on Roco. That doesn't seem to be working so maybe he should try something else; maybe sit down with him and ask if something is bothering him?

Yeah just the way Chauncey talks in pressers, I think Olshey has sold him on CJ being an all star level player that should be coached like he knows what he's doing. It's a fucking shame because CJ has said many times that he thinks he's an excellent defender and has talked about how he is underrated. The thing CJ needed most was a reality check and I don't think Chauncey is close to giving that to him.

The actual thing that CJ needs most and we need even worse is for him to get a change of scenery.

how much longer is billups going to stick with this dude? dude is dogging it out there on both ends. is this some ploy to make sure he maintains his trade value??? because i feel like it's cratered as is and playing more isn't going to help.

nance needs to be on for 25-30 mpg. we also had great success this season with him as small ball five. the injuries have forced billups to play zeller/snell more, but those minutes need to go to larry.

It doesn't help that Nas is (always) out...
