What's Wrong With Westbrook

I'm taking a big jump here, I know, but could he be autistic? Or on the spectrum somewhere?

She said it looks like he has autism or is at least on the spectrum. Strange that KS made the same observation.

He does look like he does have mood disorder but I don't think it is autism but more like Bi-bolar disorder.

Nope. If he acted that way all the time then i might agree with you. But just watch a presser after a win and you will see a totally different look.
He was sulking and was being disrespectful to the press. He didn't like losing so he wanted to take his ball and go home.

Was this today? Because if so... Colin chose the thunder in 5. How quick he switches.
Yes--this was the final segment of his show today, although he spent all last week crushing Westbrick for screwing up his prediction.

My hope tomorrow is that Westbrook gets so pissed at the criticism he is getting for his shooting and over compensates while refusing to shoot.
Both LBJ and Kobe did this (once each) to prove a point. Russ is emotional enough to try it as well. (Although it might only last a half) Maybe if he is cold in the first half?

Maybe he is just one of those players who needs to get really emotionally psyched for the game, and then has a post defeat adreneline crash. It would be an interesting experiment to interview him right after the game, then a few hours later, and then the next day.

"WestBrick is one of the top 10 worst contracts in sports."

I didn't realize how bad it was. If he can't figure out a way to shoot better, defend better, or do something better, that contract is a four year anchor for this team. PG's contract is likely tradable, but Westbrook is a Thunder for the next four years.

Hate to get a head of myself, but if you are the Thunder, what do you do? Can't move Westbrook, if you move PG, then you are doomed to mediocrity. Unlikely anyone else will be attracted to playing with those two--in Oklahoma City. I guess they rolled the dice and lost. Certainly the only option is a new coach and hope for the best.

...didn't he already do this in Game 4's second half -- looked like he totally gave up on his team and mostly deferred to teammates for the final 20+ mins :dunno:

I believe someone said he was 0-7 in the 2nd half.

I think that Westbrick is full of self confidence, full of passion for, not just the basketball, but to prove to everybody else his domination/skills in the game and constant will to beat oponnent... he loves superiority on someone. no autism at all just private ambition to be superior and that everybody see that. I am sure that after the match where he was good and won he read articles, comments and etc... but in the night where he was bad and lost - he doesnt read anything, nor even same people who praise him when he is good, no any space for critics or self - critics. Very high ego. He wants that everybody think that he is too fast, too strong, superior, to agressive, the winner.

I see him like this. and i really, really dislike him, i cant describe in english language what i think about him. Just want to watch him maximum till tuesday :)

This thread is classless.

Just because you give to a charity does not mean you're not immune from belittling people who have autism.
I didn't belittle anyone. Just wondered aloud. Kaydow's wife thought the same thing.

This made my day and yes my life sucks enough that this is the highlight of my day.!

Just stop. Y’all know nothing about this man other than his play and demeanour on the court so please don’t be armchair psychiatrists - it’s not a good look for any of you. If you don’t like how he plays or handles himself that’s fine - no point in speculating on his mental state.
What's wrong with speculating? I didn't say he was autistic. I didn't diagnose him. I was just sharing my thoughts on how he came off during his press conference. To me.

I was really annoyed by his "next question" shit at the press conferences last week. Thought it was classless and made him look like a spoiled brat. But last night, he actually answered the guy's question. Someone had obviously told him how bad he looked. I started to wonder if I had Westbrook wrong. Maybe he's just weird. Or strange. A megatalent who doesn't know how to handle it all. Made me feel a little sad for him. I'm taking a big jump here, I know, but could he be autistic? Or on the spectrum somewhere? This is not to belittle autism as Autism Speaks is a charity I give to, but it makes sense to me that there is bound to be someone who is incredibly talented athletically and also autistic. I wonder.
1. Don't give to Autism Speaks, they're a shitty organization. They're the conversion therapy of Autism organizations.
2. Don't use "autism" as shorthand for "obnoxious" or "inappropriate". This is becoming very common and it pisses me off.

Westbrook has never struck me as "on the spectrum". He's just super-intense (a la Kevin Garnett). If you want more spectrum-y Bball players, I'd say the classic was Harold Miner, and a more recent candidate is Rajon Rondo (he probably would've found someone to diagnose him as Asperger's before they got rid of that classification). And it's well known that both Deron Williams and Joe Ingles have autistic kids, which means that they're more likely to be "BAPs" (Broader Autism Phenotype), unless either kid is adopted, of course.

By the way, are you still upset with me for saying that the Blazers would win the series handily? It's not over yet but you were so upset about my opinion. By the way, not only have I given to Autism Speaks regularly, I'm also bipolar and would never belittle anyone with a mental illness.

I was saying that maybe he's NOT obnoxious.

Also- Rasta, do you have a personal experience with Autism Speaks? I've. been involved with them for 14 years since they were called Cure Autism Now. Why do you think they're bad? You can PM me if you want.

I think what you are saying is that he is insecure.

I did not get that from the post. Although autism to me is not what came to mind when I saw the interview, but I do not believe he belittled anyone with autism or even Westbrook himself with the post. Now I am older and I have a thicker skin then people nowadays.

Thank you. You understand.

To mis-quote a famous quote:

He May be a Son-of-a-Bitch, but thank god he's not our Son-of-a-Bitch.

Yes, the famous quote entails the opposite. Still, you made good use of it.

Is it belittling to ask if someone who doesn't seem to behave in a neurotypical way is, in fact, not neurotypical?

Yes it is. Westbrick is an asshole to the media. He has always been.
Has nothing to do with people who are actually singled out because they have been diagnosed by a medical professional with a mental illness.

I didn't belittle anyone. Just wondered aloud. Kaydow's wife thought the same thing.

Kaydow's wife is just as wrong as you are.
If you casually wonder if someone has x mental illness. It minimizes the difficulty faced by those who actually have been diagnosed with a mental illness.
How would you Eric, like it if everyone in the world treated those diagnosed with bipolar disorder as if it wasn't a big deal?
Isn't that what you're fighting against? To bring awareness and help those who have a mental illness?

What's wrong with speculating? I didn't say he was autistic. I didn't diagnose him. I was just sharing my thoughts on how he came off during his press conference. To me.

I was never 'upset' with you.
This series has been hard fought and Portland has a 3-1 lead. But they've been down by nearly 10 points in the last two games.
Definitively not winning easily.

You have a diagnosed mental illness yet you're attempting to de-sensitize another mental illness? Sad.
As someone who works with children who have diagnosed medical conditions/mental illnesses on the daily. You must understand the barrier you're helping to perpetuate to those people by casually making the assumption/asking the question.
Do you have x. Does x person have x.

There is a huge difference between being an asshole(like Westbrick is) to the media. Than someone who is diagnosed with a medical condition.

The man away from basketball that Westbrook is. Deserves respect.

This thread is classless and makes me question if I want to represent s2 again.
The fact that you have spoke at the UN on mental illness. And yet you still created this thread says something about Slypokerdog.
