What's Wrong With Westbrook

This thread is just another hot take.
No difference between those who say Lillard doesn't care because he's not scoring.

Sad that I took the bait.

Also- Rasta, do you have a personal experience with Autism Speaks? I've. been involved with them for 14 years since they were called Cure Autism Now. Why do you think they're bad? You can PM me if you want.
Imagine a group that used to be called "Cure Gayness Now". That's the problem.

And it's possible to be both autistic AND an asshole. But I actually don't think Westbrook is either.

You misunderstood my post. I merely said that I wondered. If someone said “I wonder if Westbrook is bipolar,” I wouldn’t be offended in the least. I’m not a bad person. As for the Blazers, nothing is literally easy but they’ve won by double figures twice and have held the Thunder under 100 three times. This hasn’t been a close series at all. Hopefully, we close it out tomorrow. I’m confident we will.

Homosexuality isn’t an illness so it can’t be cured. Are you saying autism isn’t an illness either?

I was really annoyed by his "next question" shit at the press conferences last week. Thought it was classless and made him look like a spoiled brat. But last night, he actually answered the guy's question. Someone had obviously told him how bad he looked. I started to wonder if I had Westbrook wrong. Maybe he's just weird. Or strange. A megatalent who doesn't know how to handle it all. Made me feel a little sad for him. I'm taking a big jump here, I know, but could he be autistic? Or on the spectrum somewhere? This is not to belittle autism as Autism Speaks is a charity I give to, but it makes sense to me that there is bound to be someone who is incredibly talented athletically and also autistic. I wonder.

You really need to understand more about autism before taking another ill advised big jump.

As you say to others often, learn the game then post.

Also H.C.- we have led by 19, 22, and 19 points during our three wins. Could it be “easier” than that?

I think that's exactly what he's saying. That being different from the norm shouldn't be considered something "wrong" or something that needs to be "cured".

The National Institute of Health labels at a disorder. So not an illness (That was not the word I used in my first post. It was introduced by others). Again, Homosexuality is not a disorder either.

From NIH:

“Autism is known as a “spectrum” disorder because there is wide variation in the type and severity of symptoms people experience. ASD occurs in all ethnic, racial, and economic groups. Although ASD can be a lifelong disorder, treatments and services can improve a person’s symptoms and ability to function. The American Academy of Pediatricsrecommends that all children be screened for autism. All caregivers should talk to their doctor about ASD screening or evaluation.”

So you should be screened and there IS treatment which is what Autism Speaks is all about. No one should be screened for homosexuality or go to a doctor or be treated. It’s a terrible comparison.

Just stop. Y’all know nothing about this man other than his play and demeanour on the court so please don’t be armchair psychiatrists - it’s not a good look for any of you. If you don’t like how he plays or handles himself that’s fine - no point in speculating on his mental state.
100% this

This is the most offensive thing said in this thread. What the fuck is “gayness” anyway?
Redirecting the heat you got for this thread onto him for that? You ignorantly speculate about someone's mental health over a 2-minute press conference and then try to claim that a parallel example for why an organization is bad is the most offensive things in here?

Oh wait... You have me on ignore, and now you're starting to run wild. Damn.

Thought it was classless and made him look like a spoiled brat. … Maybe he's just weird. Or strange. ... Made me feel a little sad for him. … could he be autistic? ... I wonder.
Take out all the fluff and it's easier to realize how messed up this OP is.

I see no difference between not liking Russel Westbrook and not liking Raymond Felton or Kobe Bryant....all 3 are on my "don't like" list...and I'm not claiming to be a psychologist but I'm a fair judge of character.....body language and verbal symptoms say to me that Russ is a fuckin' nutjob

Even More so i see very little difference between Russel Westbrook saying "Next Question" as Sheed saying "CTC" or "Both Teams Played hard".
Just because Rasheed Wallace played for Portland doesn't make him any more mature. What we are hearing from Blazer fans about Westbrook is exactly what every fan base across the nation was saying about Rasheed Wallace and the Blazers.

With all due respect, I think nothing good can come from a thread like this. None or very few of us are qualified to speak on what mental conditions he may or may not have. We see very little of him outside of a basketball court.

I think whats wrong with speculating is that we don't know, and throwing around mental illnesses wont lead to anything good for anyone.

I don't know what problems Russ has or doesn't have. I think especially in a playoff series this comes across as a not very classy thread.

I could really go off on this thread. Let us keep it about basketball in fact we should probably put a lock on it and let it die.

I wasn’t taking a swipe at Westbrook or people with autism and yet, it felt like a lot of people in this thread took swipes at me and it felt like a ton of bricks hitting my head. I’m dealing with major depression today no doubt because I was euphoric over the win. Sometimes it gets me even despite all the medication. The win plus this thread plus a swipe I got on a Broadway message board and the fact that I miss my husband and dog has just devastated me. I’m not blaming anyone for my bipolar disorder. But this is how I feel. Tone of voice was missing in this thread by all parties, I think. I would never have a problem with someone saying “Is MWP bipolar?” Or “I wonder if Richard Jefferson is gay” and I am both. I’ve reached out to Hobbes to learn more about autism. I gotta somehow take a break from this forum though. I love having the community of Blazers to root for the team with but the negativity crushes me. Makes no sense to criticize the stats of a bench player after our biggest playoff win in 5 years. I’ll try to step back if I can. I probably shouldn’t be typing while depressed but so be it. I’m not going to read the rest of this thread so posts that put me down will not be read. Post however you want though. Go Blazers. I think we’ll win tomorrow.

The title of your thread is "whats WRONG with Westbrook".

Not "is Westbrook Autistic?"

There is a difference.

I don't think that this thread means you need to take a break from the board, but maybe think twice about what you say (I would venture a bet that the majority of us say something and then think "hm, I wonder if that comes off like I want it to").

I don't think you feel that someone who is autistic is "wrong", but it kind of came off that way to some. And instead of doubling down on it, you could've said "woah guys, sorry I worded that horribly."

Autism isn't an "illness", it's nothing that can be 'cured' (I know you kind of addressed that already, so I'm not attacking you by saying that). It would be like saying "what's wrong with (player)? Is he Gay? So and so's wife thinks he's gay too. Hey, I support gay rights, I donate to blah blah".

This thread is not a good look for us. Not only to Westbrook himself (the man is entitled to be a jerk without people psychoanalyzing him), but people who are on the spectrum and might be members of this board itself, or members of the board who have family members who are on the spectrum (etc).

It really didn't help things that you said this and then pulled the gay and bi-polar card to defend yourself.

The whole “I don’t care what anybody thinks” while actually being incredibly sensitive is kinda pathetic. I can’t stand a thing he says, but I also feel bad for him. He’s trapped in a glass cage of emotion.

maybe he's just an ass hole. Just because he's an ass hole doesn't mean he is autistic, or that his behavior is an accurate description of someone who is autistic. Just because his eyes dart around or he doesn't give token answer doesn't mean he is autistic.
Just because someone is autistic doesn't mean they aren't an asshole.
