Call me pessimistic, but I'm not expecting much from the Blazers this season. When they struggle (particularly as I envision them struggling - still playing vets at the expense of intriguing young players), my interest in the NBA declines. It helps if there's a backup team to root for that has the following qualifications:
(1) Either it has a genuine shot at the title, or it has at least one fantastically entertaining player
(2) It's not the Lakers

I'm guessing I'm not alone in this. What's your backup team?

I pick the Grizzlies, because (a) they play a very entertaining style, (b) they've consistently drafted players I've really wanted in the past few drafts, (c) Ja is pretty fun, (d) They're a small market team that doesn't act all entitled.

Honestly, it is the teams that play entertaining basketball or specific players I like. I enjoy teams that share the ball a lot, so the Warriors are fun to watch. The Heat are as well. But I do not really "root" for anyone other than good basketball.

Always check the pistons and magic box scores, have since I was a kid in the 90’s

It’s really Blazers or nothing because I find the NBA pretty unwatchable for the most part until the playoffs. I do play in a fantasy league where we draft teams (not players) over 15 different sports, so I’ll follow whichever teams I have there. This year it’s the Suns and Nets.

I'm a huge fan of the game and catch a lot of other teams and value the entertainment they can bring. Certain story lines or players can make me want to watch one team more than another in any given season or at some point during that season. I tend to find a rooting interest during games but overall I don't root for any team in this league that isn't the Blazers. Fuck em all!!!

They are also the ones who screwed us royally in the Darius Miles situation.

Some "gods" may forgive - I sure as hell don't!

Celtics have actually always been my team in the East.

I also admired the Spurs when they were good.

I hate the Lakers and Warriors

Bucks...(.lots of ex Blazers) and now Pelicans with CJ and Nance.....I've liked the Bucks in the east for a long time. Since Ray Allen and Michael Redd played for them at least. The shocker is that after watching the Kings beat the snot out of us I found I really liked watching that team play in a short sample size.

Our team has at least one fantastically entertaining player. Maybe two. But to answer your question, I guess the Cavs? They have great fans and some good up and coming players. But again, so do we. Don't give up yet. I'll let you know when.

My first loyalties are towards the Blazers. I like the Sixers as that is the default team for Jersey people.

Raptors are my back-up and favourite East team since I live near TO. As others have said, nice roster construction - length, defence and switch-ability. Masai knows what he’s doing. Like what I’ve seen of Nurse too. Love GTjr’s boldness and VanVleet is a great NBA success story.
Honourable mention: Pelicans because I wish CJ success (just not against Blazers), and I think they’ll be fun to watch with Zion back.

The Kings could be fun this year. Mike Brown seems to have got them gelling. They were my second-fave team back in the L-Train days...

Well....
Since my job is to "take care" of all the visiting teams that come to Moda, I have an interesting perspective..
I actually like all the teams..except one...the Detroit Pistons....Not very well behaved. I remember wanting to ask Coach Casey how a class man like him has a team that behaves this way.
The Memphis Grizzlies are a blast! Very cocky, loved working with them...Minnesota was fun...The Mavs and the Wizards were very nice..Loved JKidd...
The Lakers are a pain to deal with, mainly because of you know who and all the attention he brings....
The teams, are all pretty cool, and actually easy for me to root for, and yes, I do find myself slappin' hands with the "enemy" on a nightly basis....
