Least Favorite - trading Sheed

Consolation Favorite - trading away zBo
Consolation Least Favorite - trading away Clyde
 
Favorite- Getting Buck
Least- Trading ZBO
 
Favorite: Trading for Sheed. Gotta love the Sheed.

Least: Trading ZBO (duh) for imaginary cap space. Crippled our franchise. Absolutely destroyed any planning in the hopes and saving of cap space which stopped any kind of positive roster movements. After effect was the waste of RLEC in order to get more of this cap space, which panned out horribly.
 
Fav - Roy

Least - Dre Felton

2nd Fav touché - Dumping Z-Bo, could there be a more boring 1st option? Was so happy to get his stat chasing a$$ outta town so we could move on to the Roy era. Enjoy Z-Bo's game now, but back then he was painful to watch, jackin up shots and crying over calls.

Least favorite: Petrovich
 
Least Fav Petro huh? ^ I didn't really care either way because he wasn't getting ANY run here....... stuck behind Clyde/Porter/Ainge and we were 6-0 at the time when he threw this out.......

“I want to be traded,” Petrovic told The Oregonian. “I’m the 12th man on the roster, and I don’t deserve that. I’m not being treated fairly.”

The disgruntled guard didn't just ask for a trade, he issued the Blazers an ultimatum. Trade him by No. 30 or, “If nothing is done, I’m going back to Yugoslavia,” he told The Oregonian.

Least favorite: Moses Malone (right after he hauled down about 20 rebounds in an exhibition game)
Next least was half the team for Kiki

Favorite: Bowie for Buck
 
Least Favorite: Sending Clyde away. Not that we did, but his calling to go back to HOU and not being here anymore basically crushed the happy feelings I had of growing up with him as one of my basketball heroes. To the point that he sat next to me at the airport waiting area a few years later and I didn't say a word to him.

Other least favorite: Nolan/Felton for Rudy/Miller/Faried.

Favorites: the whole Bassy-for-Roy machinations....stealing Batum at 26 from SAS...Buck for Bowie. Dame for Crash may get there soon.

(I only go back to 1985, so some old-timers might have better ones)
 
Worst for me at the time and right now was Jermaine Oneal for Dale Davis

Best for me is probably Tom Owens for the #2 pick overall in the 1984 draft. Great trade, poor execution

I think I have a similar feeling about the Clyde trade. Showed his true self and he's continued to this day.

I wanted him traded, but I think that's about the time I went from a diehard fan to just fan
 
The Clyde trade was hard to swallow but it was really time - he wanted to move on, the team was getting older and needed to reload.

So my least favorite is Brian Grant for Shawn Kemp. I know we heard crap after the fact, but Brian is still in the area, he was a huge fan favorite, he was known as the heart and sould of the team, he gets dealt for an over the hill out of shape druggie who can't even pay for his own damn condoms.

Most favorite, agree, Buck Williams. He was the final piece that sent a good team to elite level although they never grabbed the biggest prize. Still a fun run. A time when I just EXPECTED Portland to win. When I scorned a 50 win season a mediocre since they were winning 60.

I should point out that the change from diehard to more casual had less to do with trading Clyde as much as how Clyde reacted to that season and the trade and ever since.

As for my favorite trade:

Trading Geoff Petrie and Steve Hawes for what ended up being Maurice Lucas in the ABA draft.

least favorite:

Giving away Moses Fucking Malone.
 
The worst trade Portland ever made, by far, was getting rid of Moses Malone. It ranks right up there with passing on Jordan and Durant in the draft.

Getting Buck Williams and Maurice Lucas were probably the two best deals the Blazers ever did. Getting rid of Rasheed Wallace was the best addition by subtraction.
 
Best Trades:

LaMarcus Aldridge for Tyrus Thomas & Khryapa
fun fact: Chicago obtained the #2 pick they used on LaMarcus when traded Eddie Curry to New York. They also got from New York their 2007 1st, which they used on Joakim Noah!
LaMarcus is a two time All-Star. Thomas is ??.

Brandon Roy for Randy Foye
Foye is a journeyman. Roy turned around a franchise when it needed it.

Lucas for Petrie (who didn't play after that) and Steve Hawes. Lucas only played for 3 1/2 seasons, but got the championship, and brought back good value when he was traded for Calvin Natt, who was a good player for Portland. Then Natt was traded along with Cooper and Lever (a good point guard) and pick in that ridiculous Kiki Vandewhatsit trade.

Rasheed Wallace for Rod Strickland and Harvey Grant.
Grant was only an average player and we got rid of Rod and extracted big value right before his game declined. While Wallace's game improved and stayed strong as soon as he showed up in Portland.


For those mentioning Buck Williams as the best trade: he was a better player than Bowie, but he wasn't dramatically better. In addition, we sent NJ our 1st for 1989. That was a deep draft. We sent them #12, and they drafted Mookie Blaylock, who had a fine career. Still on the board at #12: Tim Hardaway, Shawn Kemp, and Vlade Divac. So, I think this was a good trade for the Blazers, but not all-time great. Buck didn't turn the franchise around like Brandon Roy. Nor did we fleece NJ.
 
The trade for Scottie Pippin was also pretty cool - lots of parts for a Top 50 player of all time, even if we was a little long in the tooth at the time.

Foye is still in the league. How did Roy turn us around? A few first round exits? That's where we were with the Jail Blazers.

Buck Williams turned us around cuz he got us to the Finals a year after losing in the first round.
 
I would say one of my favorite trades is turning out to be Gerald Wallace for the 6th pick in the 2012 draft.

My least favorite goes way back to Calvin Natt, Lafayette Lever and Wayne Cooper for Kiki Vandeweghe. I was a huge fan of Lever and Natt, and we basically gift wrapped Denver a Conference Championship winning team. Vandeweghe was a very good player, but The Blazers simply gave way too much up to obtain him.
 
My favorites: 1A Petrie and Hawes for Lucas (ABA draft) or 1B Bench for Pippen or 1C Tyrus Thomas (#4) and Khryapa for Aldridge

My least favorite: Moses Malone for '78 First Round Pick - there is not a worse trade in our history!!!! We knew he'd be really good.

This is the correct annswer

The Vandeweghe trade destroyed the nucleus of an up-and-coming Blazer squad that was gelling to compete with the Lakers for the West. Jim Paxson, Wayne Cooper, Kenny Carr, Calvin Natt (who was a complete BEAST), a healthy Mychal Thompson, a rookie Clyde Drexler, and the first pick in the draft, which became Sam Bowie. Maybe with Cooper still on the team, Bowie doesn't get pushed as hard as he does the first few years of his career and the injuries never happen. Maybe a high-value Paxson is traded for a quality legit point guard like Maurice Cheeks in his prime (Philly in decline probably makes that deal), and the Blazers seriously compete or even overtake the Lakers in the mid-late 80s.

Edit: best trade? Has to be Petrie for Lucas. This directly led to a Championship. How can you beat that?

Needless to say, I disagree with your opinions.

Buck was a role player. One of the best role players in the league, but a freaking role player.

Who cares about Foye? Journeymen don't matter. By definition.

The Blazers were in disarray, and the team was ON THE BLOCK. Who knows what would have happened if it had been sold. If you don't think Roy led the turnaround of the team fortunes and future you must not have been in Portland during those years. You had to live to know the truth.
