If you don't wanna share, don't.

This is partly for an assignment in my Philosophy of Religion class. Collecting a bunch of data.

If you are something not on here.. feel free to express your specific beliefs.

Religion is so ridiculous. I'm sure there are some devout Christians here but it's my opinion.

If the bible proves there is a god, Marvel Comics proves the existence of Superman. It's the same thing when you really think about it.

All the fairy tales in the bible are taken literally by millions of people. But, the fastest growing demographic group in the world is Atheists. People are waking up and/or have higher standards for proof.

"extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof"

I wasn't meaning for this to become this kind of thread, but I guess I should have known it was gonna happen.

BTW, I agree with everything you said.

Atheist - 4
Christian - 3
Catholic - 2
Agnostic - 1

I expect there is some correlation between lack of religion and staying up late, so I expect the results to change when the early birds get up tomorrow.

barfo

This is what I was thinking also.

I'm the fuckign curve breaker. Of course, I'm kind of a slacker Catholic....just kind of doing the motions. The history of the church is fantastic though...the cathedrals of the world are fantastic!

You forgot Lutheran you putz !!
My wife is Lutheran, I have always been agnostic.

Non Denominational -- Anti Religion in general.

But as a follower of Christ, I suppose you can say i'm a Christian. But that religion has become something I don't want a part of. So I'll stick to a relationship with God without trying to fit in to a religion.

I've always had a hard time understanding Confusionism...

to answer the poll, I'm atheist, though I don't really like to identify myself as one. Sometimes atheists take it so far that they become just as annoying/dangerous as any other religion.

Agnostic.

I can't say with 100% certainty there is no higher power/being, but I don't see any real evidence there is one.

Pretty much this, i don't understand why some atheists even take things so seriously.

However, the Bible has something nothing else has. The 100% (so far) proof of prophecy. That was something, when I was a devout atheist, that I could not ignore.

Ewww, religious talks. Scatter!

makes no sense. for fulfillment of prophecy to be worth anything as evidence you first have to establish that events in the gospels actually happened, obviously something a "devout" atheist would think is false.

100% proof of prophecy?

So does Lord of the Rings. They prophesized about the return of the king, and then it happened. Along with many other things. OMG!! Who has thr ring? Hide it! Hide it!

for the poll, atheist.

Agnostic. There's no evidence either way so, with a lack of evidence, I neither believe there is a god nor do I believe there isn't a god. Like anything else, though, with no evidence showing the presence of something, I live my life as though it isn't there.

I do quite like the Buddhist philosophy. And original Buddhism didn't involve gods or worship.

Make that "Anti Organized Religion".

Religions are just the modern version of the snake oil salesman.

But that has been proven by eye witnesses, historians and archeology. I remember I had the same sceptical arguments, but when I went to disprove it, I found it couldn't be unless one intentionally refuses to believe clear facts (like a lot of hard core liberals & conservatives do :ghoti:). Trust me, I was young and smart and just got beat down by fact after fact that could not be honestly ignored.

Agnostic. There's no evidence either way

technically an agnostic wouldn't be concerned with evidence. for practical purposes you're an atheist.

also, i assume you're referring only to a deistic god. "no evidence" for a personal intervening creator certainly would be evidence that type of god does not exist.

eye witness accounts written down hundreds of years after the fact equal 100% prophecy fulfillment?

I don't believe in God, but wouldn't be surprised if there was one, or two, or many, or none.
I stopped caring that other people were religious right around the time I got a girlfriend in high school.

eyewitnesses?

there were none.

Francis Collins: ... the New Testament as a record of eyewitnesses.

Bill Maher: You know they weren't eyewitnesses.

Francis: They were close to that.

Bill: No.

Francis: Within a couple of decades of eyewitnesses.

Grasping for straws much?
