Barring a trade involving Dame (because that would be the OBVIOUS biggest fear for everyone), what is your biggest fear for this offseason?

What would be your worst nightmare for how this offseason plays out?

No fear but it would disappoint me if we were not able to sign Norm Powell after we traded away CJ and Ant for a big forward.

Bad trade(s) for CJ/Nurk that make the Blazers worse as Dames window continues to be wasted

Im this order

1. Losing Dame

2. Hiring a garbage Coach

3. Powell leaves

4. Neil doesn't make any significant upgrade to improve the roster

5. CJ is still on this team

not fear, just recognition that Seattle is fucking up big time by not firing Olshey. Maybe he'll surprise me by actually making some significant changes, but I'm certain the changes that are needed are exactly the ones he's loathe to do

I think he'll just rinse-repeat the roster believing a new coach will turn the team into a contender. lunacy

I was listening to Brian Noe's show from Monday and he had Danny Marang on. He asked him this question and Danny's answer was trading CJ for Porzingis.

that marang dude is kinda clueless. talks like he's hot shit and is super condescending, but in reality, he doesn't really know anything, and i question what he understands about the game.

really don't understand how he has his platform.

The franchise is at a fork in the road. For that reason, my biggest fear actually isn't losing Dame. It's not choosing a direction and ending up in a disastrous wreck...

Justified or not, Dame is frustrated, that much is obvious. The onus is upon the franchise to decide what to do about it. To me, you have 2 choices -- push all of your chips into the middle and go for it, or do Dame a solid and move him.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to move Dame, but given the cap situation after this year (only Little and Nas under contract), moving off of Dame, CJ and Nurk for young players and draft picks would not be the worst way to kickoff a rebuild. The other move is the obvious one we all want -- fucking go for it.

My biggest fear is Neil doing Neil nibbling around the edge and adding incremental pieces, jeopardizing the future cap situation and not making an appreciable difference to the situation, inevitably resulting in getting less for Dame, CJ and Nurk, screwing up our future, etc.

Commit to a decision and go all in one way or the other.

Right place. Right time.

I don't love cj for porzingis, oft injured big man doesn't seem like the right move. He's having trouble fitting in with a ball dominant Lula, how does that look paired with dame? I guess I'd have to see what an eventual nurk trade looks like after, because I don't think KP can play PF at all, so you couldn't really get away with having both on the floor.

Yeah.... I'm not sure I wrote that correctly. Danny said that CJ for Porzingis was his nightmare trade.

CJ should be traded but trading him for Porzingas doesn't make a lot of sense

to start with, salaries are the same so no gained flexibility on the cap, which is really needed...unless an elite player is coming in. It's a non-all-star for non-all-star deal so the won/loss trajectory isn't really altered either. I'm not even sure the fit is better

the only significant positive of this could be clearing the way to re-sign Powell. But with the Porzingas salary, Portland's tax hell is still the same

Blazers need to find a better trade

Losing Powell for nothing would be a disaster. But I think a likely scenario is S&T him for a TPE, then hopefully using that TPE to absorb another player later. Maybe Harrison Barnes or an equivalent salary that plays a forward position.

Olshey + Legacy = Melo. Resistance is futile
I must be crazy. I actually think both CJ and Melo will be gone. The evidence is too clear even for Olshey to miss and I think he understands he will be on the chopping block next if he doesn't wise up.

They got Melo into the top 10 in scoring. That should be enough.

if a team has the space to take on Powell, why would they take him in a S&T, hard-capping themselves in the process? Portland would have to send that team assets other than Powell it would seem

1. Getting hard capped only matters if that team is planning to go over the tax.
2. Sign and trade opens up options for teams with capspace but not enough capspace to take him in completely. Of course the TPE generated in that scenario would be smaller.
3. Yes, Portland would probably send something, like some future seconds for facilitating the deal like the Hayward deal. It's also assuming Powell does Portland a solid.

Either way, it's better than him walking for nothing.

sure, I'm biased against Olshey but watching the press conference, I'm convinced he cares more about being proved right on CJ and the roster, than still being Portland's GM 14 months from now. He's going to pocket another 8M in salary by then (guess).

I'll say again, as long as Olshey is the Blazer GM, CJ will be the Blazer SG. I do not believe for a second that Olshey offered CJ for PG13 or Harden. He could prove me wrong in the next 3 months but that press conference didn't do one thing to convince me otherwise

People will continue to bitch about Stotts, even though he is no longer with the team. See Around the NBA thread for examples.

Look at what Nate McMillan's doing with the Atlanta Hawks. He has them playing at a championship level.

My top 5...

1) Neil doesn't know what a real contender looks like

2) Melo is brought back

3) We don't resign Zach

4) Miss on the coaching hire

5) Powell leaves for nothing
