What's your worst case fears about this offseason?

I must be crazy. I actually think both CJ and Melo will be gone. The evidence is too clear even for Olshey to miss and I think he understands he will be on the chopping block next if he doesn't wise up.
:smiley-crazy:
Yep. Fairly sure you are.
Despite all the evidence, I don't think Olshey will make significant changes to the 'foundational' players. It appears he's willing to throw Stotts under the bus because loosing in the first round was 'not a roster issue'.

Everyone that is on the roster this season is back next season, and they grossly overpaid for Norman and they hire the modern day version of Kaleb Canales, and Neil Olshey is replaced by Steve Patterson and John Nash

1. Losing our only all-star
2. Not obtaining a 2nd all-star

I doubt we see much changes in the roster. Neil said us losing in the first round wasn’t a roster issue right?
That's what he said; but I think he is kind of wishy-washy.

So I post something on this thread and it becomes your mantra for the next 4-6 months.
I’ll pass.

sure, I'm biased against Olshey but watching the press conference, I'm convinced he cares more about being proved right on CJ and the roster, than still being Portland's GM 14 months from now. He's going to pocket another 8M in salary by then (guess).

I'll say again, as long as Olshey is the Blazer GM, CJ will be the Blazer SG. I do not believe for a second that Olshey offered CJ for PG13 or Harden. He could prove me wrong in the next 3 months but that press conference didn't do one thing to convince me otherwise
The PG13 deal was all 3 picks and any player but Dame/CJ/Nurk. I thought that was fair. I can’t imagine CJ wasn’t in his Harden deal though.

Hiring a less than exceptional coach. If we don't get a top flight coach nothing else matters. Blow it up and start over.

Neil trades Dame for Paul George.

Neil IS dumb enough to do something like that.

My biggest fear would probably be that we blow it up and become the Cavs without making the playoffs again in my lifetime.

So are you indicating you've lost the ability to read? This 'place' is full of posters who either equally or even moreso think Olshey is responsible.

I dare him to find even one post that says the entire fault should be on Stotts.

Barring a trade involving Dame (because that would be the OBVIOUS biggest fear for everyone), what is your biggest fear for this offseason?

What would be your worst nightmare for how this offseason plays out?
Not really afraid of a Dame trade, e.g. Dame for Ja as principals would be ok.

Worst nightmare is actually another 1st round loss?

No, worst nightmare is Dame career ending jury.

this is not combative, but what is a top flight coach in your opinion
Ideally a coach who has taken multiple teams to the conference championship series. Or somebody like Spoelstra.

I don't think coaches like that are available, so I doubt it will happen unless we get extremely lucky on a newcomer.

This is why I wasn't big on firing Stotts.

The franchise is at a fork in the road. For that reason, my biggest fear actually isn't losing Dame. It's not choosing a direction and ending up in a disastrous wreck...

Justified or not, Dame is frustrated, that much is obvious. The onus is upon the franchise to decide what to do about it. To me, you have 2 choices -- push all of your chips into the middle and go for it, or do Dame a solid and move him.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to move Dame, but given the cap situation after this year (only Little and Nas under contract), moving off of Dame, CJ and Nurk for young players and draft picks would not be the worst way to kickoff a rebuild. The other move is the obvious one we all want -- fucking go for it.

My biggest fear is Neil doing Neil nibbling around the edge and adding incremental pieces, jeopardizing the future cap situation and not making an appreciable difference to the situation, inevitably resulting in getting less for Dame, CJ and Nurk, screwing up our future, etc.

Commit to a decision and go all in one way or the other.
This is it.

Running it back with a mediocre coaching hire will set this franchise back YEARS.

I would rather bring in an unknown with even the smallest of chances that things click and we are put into a position to win a title, rather than sit through another Stotts season where we flame out in the first round.

This is kinda how I feel as well. To me, Spoelstra is a no brainer, but after that an established head coach doesn’t excite me

This is a great point. How long does it take to know if you have a great coach?

Does it matter if you have a good team? Could you have the worst talent in the league and know if you had a great coach?

1. Dame asks to be traded
2. We keep CJ and Norm walks for nothing
3. We hire D'Antoni or a gool ol' boy hire like that... we need fresh eyes.

in other words, Meyers and Harkless plus 3 non-lottery picks in the same....for Paul George. Like I've said since then it was not a serious offer, but Olshey fans give him credit for trying.

kind of like offering 20K for a 2021 Lexus...."hey, I tried but the dealership was unreasonable!"

i see some people are saying: "dame asking for a trade" (i mean, he shouldve known that sooner or later there could come a moment when he wont be happy for some reason and therefore ask for a trade), but i wont say it cause hes been pretty vocal about his loyalty etc, so i dont expect him to ask for a trade and it would be really disappointing if he does that (he surely earned his right to leave)

theres couple of things that im "worried" about and thats a new head coach, blazers cannot hire a coach similar to terry stotts, meaning a guy whos too friendly with his players, a guy who dont hold his players accounatable, a guy who lets players have too much freedom, a guy who like his team to shoot too many threes... we need a coach who knows how to coach defense and who knows how to use his players and maximize their ability

the others are nurk, powell & cj mccollum, ideally youd want to keep nurk and use him properly in order to get best out of him and then keep powell and trade cj mccollum in order to balance the roster, so interesting time lies ahead of us and blazers cant afford to make bad decisions, not in the western conference like it is now
