I really don't think people realize how unique this cap space is.... when was the last time we actually had this much cap space? I can't even remember. We are in a very rare position to be able to acquire someone without giving up any of our assets. We won't see this again for quite a while and we're wasting it.

How are we wasting it? Since July 1st, the Blazers have actively been trying to put that cap space to use by aquiring a free agent. They have tried to use it twice in less than 2 weeks . . . doesn't appear like they are trying to waste it.

Well, I just think it's funny...... some of us were angry when he didn't do anything with RLEC at the trade deadline, but we all said, "okay okay, we'll give him the summer to get something done. We have cap space. The summer will be our big move." Now it seems like KP won't even be doing anything with our cap space this summer, so I'm wondering what the excuse will be now? Wait until the trade deadline? We have the space until then? And what then? What happens when nothing comes of that? What happens when the cap space fades away into oblivion?

KP isn't a failure. His handling of this offseason and our cap space has been, and will be if we don't do anything with it.

Why call it an excuse? Seems more like an exercise in reality to me. If KP can't find a deal for a player he likes this summer, then isn't waiting the only realistic option? None of the FA's remaining on the board are very exciting. You can't force a team to make a deal for a player you want (although the Millsap signing certainly may have been an attempt to force a 3-way). Making a deal just to make a deal is stupid. The amount of cap space available increases after the summer when the Euro-holds end. Teams that are in luxury tax hell, and there are several, who end up not having the seasons that they hope for this year may well be looking to jetison a player by the trade deadline to avoid paying massive tax and the Blazers will be positioned to take advantage of that situation. If nothing comes of it, then doing nothing and not being saddled with our own luxury tax mess in a few years may well be better than taking on a contract for a player that's less than what we want.

I agree this be patient and we are waiting for the right deal sounds ok, but there is pressure on the Blazers too. Teams aren't in line to take our cap space and give us a great player. If we wait until near the trade deadline, teams will also know we will LOSE that cap space if we don't do anything. The pressure isn't on the other team to do anything. I know the tax situation may motivate a team, but there isn't a ton of teams way over the tax limit.

As for KP on Wheels at 12:00 today, what a terrible interview. Can we ask one tough question? They should have just said all the answers for him. " We like our team." "We expect to have Roy and LA signed before camp." "We have plans if Utah matches."
