Wheels is back!

I remember when I used to work graveyard many years ago and Jim Valvano’s (Jimmy V) brother hosted a national radio show I’d listen to on my way home from work. Wheels had a weekly segment where he’d call in and they’d BS and do sports trivia together. It was great.
I always wanted Wheels and Rice to take over Talkin' Ball and replace Jaynes....

In terms of content, I enjoy Wheels new podcast more than anything else Blazer related.

He doesn't have the pressure of towing the company line, but also doesn't feel the need to be over-the-top negative to pander to viewers. His connections to guests also add value that nobody else really provides.

Great to hear his voice again.

The Kevin Calabro interview is great...just finished it....covid scared him into retiring last year. He wasted no time going home and getting out of the public for good reasons....makes me appreciate the people who've risked the road to bring us hoops with such a high risk factor around it. Wheels voice sounded stronger in this interview so I hope he just had a cold in the first one.

KC is certainly going to be landing himself a nice gig very soon. I'm probably in the minority, but I think he's the best PBP guy we've had. 2nd to Steve Snapper Jones if I were to rate all the TV talent over the last 30 years.

When I discovered this podcast I was thrilled...first thing I thought was..."Once again we can say it's a great day to be a Blazer!" Wheels is like a long lost friend coming home with stories for days..I think this is a great platoform for him

Finished catching up on his old episodes last night...looking forward to his next guest Jason Quick to see how Wheels deals with Quick's recent output about the team.

According to Wheels he'll be putting out 3 of these per week year round, even throughout the offseason....love his interviews with other play by play guys talking about growing up and muting the tv at home so they could call games from their living rooms watching tv....great stuff. Hope people spread the word and help Wheels make a solid career out of this...I'm all in!

Wow! Did you bury anyone famous?
If it was a pet graveyard you'd have few choices...Lassie, Old Yeller, Trigger....Bubbles the chimp..Hidalgo...King Kong...that shark from Jaws.

Today a 2 part interview starts off with THE MIKE'S!!!! Wheels couldn't get this done in one interview! I thought it was going to be Quick! This rocks!!!!!!

Wheels has so many co-morbidities that it was a very wise move for him to stay inside his home. I saw on Twitter just the other day he wants a haircut at his home. Any recommendations? ‍

If he doesn't leave his house, why does he need a barber? Aren't podcasts audio only?

Vanity?

I use to love Bob Valvano's show, listened to it all the time on the graveyard shift!

His interviews are on Zoom so although his broadcast is only audio...the people he's interviewing see him....so yes...vanity! Wheels with the Meyers/Bee Arthur bun wouldn't look good at all.

Would be cool if @Wheels did a live stream where he just called the game on his own YT channel :dunno:
I think him doing 3 shows a week all year round is awesome....he's going to be my top podcast to listen to from here on out...already I feel like he's back in the Blazers community and it's as if he actually never really left.

Finished part two last night...great segment...good to see Rice is still a major Blazer fan....Barrett is no longer following the NBA but deep into the Portland baseball lobby...he thinks it's looking good. On other news Wheels has a memoir coming out in book form soon which will be good to read!

I can totally see why Barrett is no longer following the NBA. I think it's different when you grow up a Blazers fan, end up working for them and then get dumped by them.

I'm looking forward to listening to the podcasts, just haven't made the time yet.

Barrett pretty much admittedly is hyper sensitive to change....I remember when he choked up and teared up on camera when Nate got fired...he talks about this..it hurt MB more than Wheels or Rice....MB had a lot of personal attachments to the team and his kids grew up around the team. Rice is still rockin' Blazer gear in Florida and has followed every game and seems to enjoy the team the same as always. Rice knows that now at 81 his grandkids are the focus. Really glad I got to meet Mike Rice and listen to his stories in person...he's a great guy.

What's funny (for lack of a better word) about it is, if you looked at the three of them (MB, Wheels and Rice), MB always came off very serious and stoic. Not the one you'd expect to fly off the handle, or over-react. Wheels and Rice? It would've been unusual for them NOT to over-react or emotionally respond to something.

There's a great story about how MB got calls from refs around the league when fired offering sympathy ...Rice said he got calls from refs wishing him a better second career! Rice is great at poking fun at himself....Wheels feelings seemed pretty calm especially in his interview with Kevin Calabro...this podcast is best for Wheels given his inability to travel much

BUMP! Anyone listen to the Mike and Mike interviews? I thought they were great!

BUMP! Just listened to Wheels newest episode...it'd been a while since he's done one..it's with Herb Brown, Mo Cheeks old assistant and Larry Brown's brother...had great things to say about Chauncey and as always...Wheels was great! It's a good day to be a Blazer!
