Wheels out..

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

Get well soon Wheels! I aspire to your overall professionalism on and off the mic, so I'm excited for these health issues to be behind you so that you can grace our ears again!

It would be awesome to interview you for True Blazer Fan at some point, and if you're ever interested, you know where to find me!

Really? Hawking your wares?

Nah, he likes it, I was just trying to be funny.

He likes it? Man, he must be getting some good meds!

(wonder who is favorite poster is? I bet it's (not) me!)

When I lived in Sacramento, Brian's show, Wheels at Work, was my favorite show. A great afternoon drive time show. He also called Monarch's games, and I would only listen to those when I did because of him. I moved here a year after Wheels did and knew that the broohaha over him taking Shonley's place would blow over once people listened to him and got to know him. Listening to Wheels call a game is the best. Reminds me of Chick Hearn, and that is the ultimate compliment.

Get well soon buddy, we need you!

I remember the real dislike people had for him, replacing Schonz. There are still some who haven't let go of the fantasy of an almost 90 year old Schonz doing play by play.

People HATED on Rice when he first arrived, and then he became a legend. Same with Wheels.

It's only a matter of time when Calabro becomes fully accepted (cept by those who are incapable of moving on). :)

I have one real goal in my life outside of raising my kids and being a good husband. The goal is to create or do something that brings happiness for other people. When I look at what wheels has done, I think its safe to say that he has done just that for many people he will never meet and I admire that. I hope he realizes if he decided to walk away from the microphone today he would do so having made a positive impact on many thousands of people, and that Blazer fans appreciate him not just as a radio commentator but as a man.
PS please dont quit, I want him back!

That was really cool.

So there I was Sunday night. I turned on the Blazers game halfway through the third quarter (the fucking DVR recorded the blacked out NBA TV listing instead of the CSNW broadcast so I missed most of the game. How fucking stupid is that? But I digress.)

As the quarter was coming to a close, I was thinking the Utah announcers weren't that bad. Then I slowly began to realize, to my utter shock: I wasn't listening to the Utah announcers. Those were the Blazers announcers.

Yeah.

One of these is not like the others. One of these is different from the rest. Hint: it's the last one.

You're right. Wheels replaced a legend (Mike Barrett wasn't a legend).

Colabro is more like Mike Rice, who replaced Geoff Petrie. Mike was a seasoned pro who worked for ESPN and had worked in the field for a long time and was well respected before he worked for Portland.

Both of them replaced a mediocre broadcaster. It took a while for the fans to warm up to Mike Rice's character (two words: Swami Rice).

Hell, people didn't like Mike Barrett when he first took over for Pete Pranica (and later Steve Jones).

WHAT? Pete Pranica was the worst.

Unfortunately for Calabro the NBA game is too fast for him to keep up anymore. Way too many mistakes.
