My first thought is 109k / year doesn't seem like that much. Course then I looked it up and apparently in oregon the average family only brings in about 70k... Which seems incredibly low to me, but I live in a bubble...

The second thought is the interesting part about money is it seems like the more you have the more you want. It's always strange to me when I read about really rich people committing theft, or fraud, or whatever it is just so they can have more. There is a lot I like about capitalism, but at the same time, there seems to be a common a human trait that is always seeking to get more no matter how privileged you are.

Third thought and honestly I wish it was my first thought, I hope he isn't let off easy.

Former San Diego County sheriff's deputy, four others charged with illegal gun trafficking

Five men, including a former San Diego County Sheriff's Department captain, were indicted on charges related to illegal gun trafficking and drug trafficking, the US Attorney's Office for Southern California said Friday.

Marco Garmo, 52, served as a sheriff's deputy 27 years and was the captain in charge of the Rancho San Diego Station, according to a news release from the US Attorney's Office.

He was charged with engaging in the business of dealing in firearms without a license, making false statements in acquisition of a firearm, obstruction of justice, aiding and abetting the possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and other offenses.

Besides making a profit, Garmo sold guns to cultivate future donors for his anticipated campaign for sheriff of San Diego County, the news release said.

My dad and grandfather used to watch that show a lot, and at the same time tell me how awful violent video games were. Still not sure how I feel about that.

I bet deaths per hour in your average FPS game vs an episode of Gunsmoke is 100 to 1.

I love video games but I can understand how older generations could feel they are extremely violent.

Sure, but if you extrapolate it beyond just "Gunsmoke" and FPS games and say Movies / TV vs video games I bet it's a much closer number. I definitely think a video game is a different experience because you're "in control", but violence is pretty much the norm in most forms of media. I don't remember Gunsmoke that well, but seems like the killing was always a few guys at the end.

I think something a lot of people don't understand about video games is that just like all other forms of media there are a ton of genres. That range from exceptionally violent to no violence at all. There are kids games and adult games. What drew me into games and making games, and such wasn't the violence but there are a lot of games that have professional writing and are basically like reading a really good book. A lot of my favorite music comes from composers who made music for games.
Some of my favorite stories come from games.

It's very similar to movies and TV there is a lot of variety out there.

What a surprise. The head of the police union got no jail time. The job of the legal system is to enforce the law onto us, not to enforce themselves.
