Olshey's statement about Nurk's medical condition scared the hell out of me.
This! I was like WTF when he started talking about Nurk. I was really happy that the reporter asked the clarifying question about when the set back happened. I think NO just explained it poorly, because it came off as bad.

Well Olshey did follow that up with a caution that they may not be able to acquire an upgrade with it considering all the money being thrown around elsewhere. But yah, I still think they'll use it on someone while trading a player or two. If we could get under the tax, Ben mclemore would be my target. 8m per for him sounds about right, but he may get more elsewhere.

Why? Don't we already have way too much money tied up in the shooting guard position? It's the reason we won't have the full MLE in the first place.

The guy is an average to slightly above average 3-point shooter that does nothing else well. He's been in the league for four full seasons, was handed the starting SG role in SAC and lost the starting job to Arron Afflalo. He addresses zero needs and would be a redundant version of what we already have - only worse.

Or is Gasol Nurk?

Shooting addresses zero needs?

Another question then; how much $ would we have to cut?
Per spotrac, total salaries for next year are presently $140M, plus an additional 4.5M for the picks (although that will probably be 5.4M once they actually sign). Tax line is $119M. So we need to cut over $25M in salary to be below the tax line and have the full MLE available for use.

Cutting Ezeli saves 6.7M, Connaughton and Quarterman could be another 2.8M combined (9.5M total). Still need to cut around 16M after that.

He's a career .352 3-point shooter that plays the same position as C.J. (.413 career 3FG%) and Crabbe (.411 career 3FG%). So, yeah in this case, McLemore's shooting addresses zero needs.

I'd rather pick up Connaughton's $1.4 million option (.407 career 3FG%) than blow our MLE on Ben McLemore.

Hmm, yeah that's gonna be tough to do within the next week or so. Probably not worth it when even the full MLE doesn't guarantee a rotational player.

You don't think the full mle gets you a rotational player? I think the mini mle should get you an 8th or 9th guy

Maybe it does, but I wouldn't put money on it. You got Cole Aldrich making 7m + per, so I definitely don't think it's a guarantee. We'd have to hope to find a guy like Dedmon. Btw the funny thing about Dedmon is a few of us were advocating going after him last offseason.

We'd basically need to decline all of Ezeli, Connaghton and Quarteman AND get someone who is at least $17.1 million under the cap to give us a future 2nd round pick for Turner, or someone who is at least $21.3 million under the cap (due to the 15% trade kicker) to give us a future 2nd for Crabbe. And, we'd need to do it in the next 4 days, and it makes no sense since both of those players are better than anyone we'd get for the MLE.

I was kind of encouraged by it. Confirmed that he came here in bad condition, somehow body out of balance. By fixing that stuff, he should be less injury prone. Of course this brings up the question as to whether they should have got his body straightened around before even putting him out there in games.

So Collins said he asked for #12 since 32 was retired but it wasn't available so settled for 33.

My question, why the fuck wasn't 12 available

Some numbers are retired and can't be used again based on the greatness of the player who wore that number.
Some numbers are ruined and can't be used again based on the lmaness of the player who wore that number.

Rick Adelman in a ring of honor type thing (not jersey retirement) hopefully. Better not be because of LMA.

Better answer.

Look at swanigans reaction lmao.

Classic eye roll. At least he avoided the Captain Picard face palm. The kid was 360 pounds in 8th grade and homeless and he has to sit there and listen a fool reporter ask Zach Collins about his struggle to overcome the challenges of being white and attending private schools.

I can see why Olshey wanted these two guys. Both give off this "I like to battle" style 'tude but in different ways. Seeing how Collins played for Gonzaga that goofy nerd thing is all a front. He is going to battle for his minutes. And Swanigan just exudes confidence. Make July 7th come now, Doc Brown!

Caleb can convince me he's a first ballot hall of famer just by the way he talks.

Did Quick really ask Collins about playing basketball as a white guy??

Sounded like he asked him about handling the stigma about white players, rather than simply about being a white player.

Going by so many of the comments I've seen on Twitter and on here, many people think he can't play because he is white or refer to him as Meyers 2.0 ....which they wouldn't do if he wasn't white. So apparently there is at least some stigma.

I heard a funny story the other day about Larry Bird who was torching some team. After burying another shot on a helpless defender, he reportedly turned the the opposing coach and yelled at him something to the effect of, "How dare you have this white guy guard me." Even Larry though most white guys couldn't play. :biglaugh:
