Opioid diversion and misuse is a problem affecting everyone in the veterinary clinic -- from staff to pet owners to pets themselves. Of the 189 veterinarians surveyed, 13% reported that they had seen a client who they believed had purposefully injured a pet, made them ill, or made them appear to be unwell.

I heard this referenced on the radio, and it just made me sick. Made me wish we had public canings like Singapore for people like this.

The local animal shelter where I live is filled with animals that were abused and taken away from evil treatment....makes me sick. At least they get treated really well there and nursed back to some health but they will always carry the scars.

We need to bring back lobotomies and nut houses more. Fear is the best deterrant

Thirteen percent that should never be allowed to have a pet. There should be a mandatory minimum of one year in prison, not some county lock up, but the real deal, where they learn what abuse is all about.

The problem is that these people are addicted to opioids. They will do anything to get their next "fix". I'm not sure what the solution is.

cut out a piece of their brain

...no use for people who treat pets that way.

...don't mean to take this thread off topic but didn't feel like this article deserved its own thread;

I saw this on the new this morning and on one hand maybe the Father has a point but who in the hell puts a 7 year old and a 9 year on a plane flight alone from DesMoines to Orlando? I understand that airlines all have a protocol covering this sort. of thing but I think the grand parents/parents are just as much to blame

Not off topic at all--this is perfect. I worded the thread title the way I did to accommodate just this sort of thing.

Although I don't really see this particular situation as all that unreasonable. In theory, sending unaccompanied minors on a flight shouldn't be a big deal, as long as there are adults to meet them at their destination, and the airline is looking out for them while in transit. When my brother and I were that age, we were walking unaccompanied a mile and a half each way between our apartment and the high school to attend daily swimming lessons, crossing highways and train tracks along the way. I don't doubt that if we'd had a reason to fly across the country without our mom, she'd have permitted it, assuming reasonable safeguards existed.

I love good dogs...unfortunately I have new neighbors who have two blue tick hound, Doberman crossed evil dogs....they aren't well trained and have taken to attacking me, my wife and my guests...they don't go home when the neighbors call them and the poor wife of the owner of these dogs chases them around my property and up and down the road trying to contain them....they howl all night long and don't respond to kindness....we were patient...calm..tried to be nice and neighborly understanding they've only been here a few weeks....they lay their ears down, bare their teeth and come at us whether in the garden, picking blackberries or just playing guitar on my deck...I finally told them I can't handle it anymore...control them or I call animal control...haven't been bothered since..it's been about 3 days now without an attack..felt really bad but I can't live in dog hell because someone loves their psychotic pets...sorry to add this but I needed to tell my dog story...hopefully people will learn what it means to have dogs off leash and at least send them to obedience school if they can't train them themselves
posted this in the Dogs thread but it probably should be here instead

I'm still regularly visiting the shelter for a rescue dog....haven't found the right one yet...

Yeah, I got the thumbs up from my bride to get another Boy to go with our girl. Its been eight months so its time. I do the shelter sites, rescues and even the specialized Boxer rescues..

Just missed one that was local, but the Boxer rescue became involved and they took the pup north..so I had a hard time trying to do the meet and greet with our girl...

Just have to keep looking, the right one will come along.

People who harm animals are sociopathic and narcissistic, and animals are just the beginning for them. Nearly all violent people, from wife beaters to murderers, have a history of animal abuse. It is a HUGE warning sign when you see that behavior at a young age.

I agree with this! Everyone who is mean to me in this forum are sociopaths and narcissists.
