You want to improve the attitude and performance of police officers? Give them adequate funding for better recruitment screening and on-the-job training. Ever worked with an ex-police officer? Ask them how many of hours of weapon or self defense training they got..... Ask the government shrinks to come up with acceptable psychological profiles for hiring..... This isn't a political party issue. It's a money issue. And that's something BOTH sides don't want to hear.

Most (not all) of liberals don't want to run off the cops, they want police to respect the laws they are charged with upholding. Keep citizens safe, not risk the lives of citizens for their own jollies.

Ripcityboy, you are correct, money will be needed, to better train, to better provide, to better employ the right people as officers. Also, laws, foci and protocol will need to be addressed so that violent, predatory and dangerous people become the focus of the police, and not speeders, druggies, mentally ill and the indigent.

The average beat cop makes roughly 3 times what he would in any of the few other careers she/he might succeed in, but many could not survive Army boot camp. Quite a few of them are realistically unemployable due to mental/anger issues. Yet they are given guns and an implied license to kill anyone they think looks "threatening".

Cop bosses make more money than they ever dreamed of.

Oh there's a lot of money in the departments. It just doesn't go to the beat cops. I think their starting wage is 30/hr or around there.
