I was in the back of the boat yesterday, hunched in there changing the plumbing for the autopilot hydraulic pump. I hear this loud heavy accent, Where you get Das Boot?

Some how I knew what the heck he was talking about. we chatted for a bit and then he says, She is Beautiful! Very Nice!

I thought the guy was from Germany, but no, from Groningen, northern Netherlands near Germany. He was driving through town sight seeing when he spotted the boat and came to take a closer look.
No orders though, still on the work force drop out list.

Das Boot was a submarine in the movie.

Yes Denny, the guy from the Netherlands clearly thought Marazul's boat was a sailing sub.

Actually that's not that outrageous, when I saw the Marazul in person the smooth swept lines of the design reminded of the stealth bomber. If I could see a plane in it I guess someone else could see a sub.

He was actually asking directions to Blockbuster.

It was a German hippie version of WW2. The whole German sub crew smirked at the one hardline Nazi on board. I didn't believe that, but it was a good movie.

My grandfather in law, RIP, would always talk about the movie and how it was a perfect representation of WWII. He was a WWII on a pretty famous ship USS Hadley. He said they shot down more kamakazis than any other ship. They almost were sunk too. Had to be towed in its final war.

I was just talking to someone about Robert Mitchum a couple of weeks ago. I never liked his "Joe Cool" persona in his movies. And his drooping bedroom upper eyelids. I saw a lot of his movies in the early 60s. 25 cents.

Maybe the shear line does resemble a WWII era U-Boot. This is what he saw as he was coming into Old Town
