Can you link the report that cited an offer that you would've been happy with? I think you came up with a conclusion ahead of time and are letting your assumptions justify it.

You shouldn't really be worried about anything because it won't change a thing, but if you want to worry about something, worry about ownership.

He isn’t the only one…

Just reports out of Philly, Houston, Orlando and some national reports that teams were perusing him and I sincerely doubt they were undervaluing him or trying to rip us off. It's just like Joe said he wasn't looking to take any steps back but actually wanted to acquire someone but then Joe doubled back on that and said he wasn't trying to rush things. Honestly Joe really has me worried. I don't think he has a really clear direction for this team.
come on my man, you're better than this.

Don’t want to improve to much since 2025’s draft looks loaded.
So now you already want to tank again next year? So 4 years running to get another rookie that will take another 2-3 years to develop. That's 7 years.
People want this team to lose for a decade? The Blazers have fully switched to the old Clippers. Now the Blazers will be a perennial cellar dweller and the Clippers will SSBM (Spend Steve Balmer's Money) their way to a Finals birth.

No that isn't sarcasm. That's just the way it is anymore.

While I hope the Blazers are not cellar dwellers for the next seven years, they do not have the luxury of SSBM. They have whatever pittance Vulcan allocates. Sad but true. The SPAM days are long gone.

Jody Allen is listed as the NBA's second wealthiest owner. That's the entire NBA. Yes she is far behind Balmer but still wealthy enough to spend a little money.
Enjoy the next decade. She surely will.

I think most believe the Vulcans are calling the shots. Not her. And they seem to be shrewd penny pinchers. Just the reduced services/increased costs around the moda and reduced perks/increased ticket prices for season ticket holders kind of validates this.

I totally agree. But she will not spend any money beyond what she is required to, the floor plus what ever to remain a non taxpayer. I am confidant she listens to the Vulcans. They are all business people, and probably nerds for the most part. Rich nerds I am sure. But they should not be involved in professional sports. I doubt they participated in or followed any sports growing up. They do not understand how a sports team helps to build a community through local pride. They are only concerned with generating profits. I wouldn't be so hard on our fellow fans. It's not that any of us want to be in the lottery or suck through a rebuild, it's just the only way for the Blazers to become relevant. Staying off the treadmill. I was quietly hoping that Portland would bring in maybe a young player with expiring's for Brogdon/Grant and see if they could get lucky in free agency due to all the uncertainties of the new CBA. Won't happen now. That can was kicked down the road. Now Grant will be here next season for certain which hopefully will put him in a mentor role with a couple new bigs being drafted. The team we have now will be the team we have next season save for draftee's. The good thing is there are some very interesting prospects in this draft. Always are. And there are always hidden gems. Just gotta find them. Be better at talent evaluation than the others.

acquiring Schmidt’s should help with this and help expedite the talent acquisition. He is one of the reasons I think we can turn this in 18-24 months instead of 3-5 years.

I think that in a perfect world Scoot/Sharpe/Ayton could be a great core. Portland has a lotto pick this year, maybe two. With luck they will be core players as well. I am pretty sure in my mind that Ant will have to be moved next season if Scoot/Sharpe start realizing their potential. Brogdon/Grant do not fit the timeline with the youngsters. The prospect of looking at three future trades injects way too much uncertainty for me to be as optimistic as you. Would love for everything to pan out, but I've lost enough money (which really isn't much) to not bet on anything.

Fair enough. Though I always try to be realistic, I will always lean to the side of glass half full, not half empty.

Wook, his agent was reported as telling Cronin that they would prefer the Blazers not match the offer, that Dallas is where Thybulle would prefer to be. It was never disputed by any party, so I assumed it was true. Then again, who knows if the reporting is accurate?
Thx. I had heard that it was said, but never heard who said it.

it does seem like the Vulcans, mainly Kolde, are running the Blazers (into the ground?) with Jody maybe being more big picture

there was some "reporting" that suggested that JA was raking in millions by being the executor/manager of her brother's trust. If/when the Blazers are sold Jody won't get a dime; the proceeds will all go into the trust.

however, the state of Washington has laws that stipulate it's entirely legal for the manager of a trust to collect a management fee based upon a percentage of the asset value of the trust. The reported standard is 3-5%. If the Blazers are worth 2 billion, JA could be making 60-100M/year; if they are worth 3B, her fee could be 90-150M/year. If the Blazers are worth 3B and the Seahawks are worth 5B, then Jody's annual income from the two sports franchises could be in the 240-400m/year range.

and those two franchises are just part of a trust. The total value of the trust and the rate it has been giving away to charities is unclear

IIRC, the NBA has a rule that says that no NBA franchise can be held in a trust for longer than 10 years. At the 10 year mark it has to be out of the trust and in private ownership. I'd imagine the NFL has a similar rule. PA died in October of 2018, meaning that if the reporting is true JA can collect management fees for another 4-1/2 years. I think we'll be seeing this shitty ownership for a long time

I thought Silver said there was no such rule? It just has to be a reasonable amount of time to settle the trust. And he went even further saying that Paul Allen's trust is one of the most complex in history...

I was not encouraged.

*EDIT* This is close... but I thought he even went further at another time.

might be the case but I did see a report there was that 10 year rule. If Silver said there wasn't a rule then obviously the report was wrong

and yes, if JA can perpetually collect massive fees from managing the Blazers this ownership morass could last for a couple of decades

In July 2022, Jody Allen announced that neither the Blazers nor Seahawks were for sale and there were "no sales discussions happening." She went on to say that a time would "come when that changes," but that an estate the size of her brother's "can take 10 to 20 years to wind down." That announcement came about a month after the Blazers confirmed a report that Phil Knight, the co-founder of Nike, and Alan Smolinsky, a minority owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, had submitted an offer of more than $2 billion to buy the Blazers.

In June 2023, Jody Allen told Bachman that the team was still not for sale. Bachman reported that Knight and Smolinksy made a second, more lucrative offer to buy the team but that conversations had "hit a wall."

The fact that Knight and Smolinsky made a more lucrative offer than the original $2 billion, and were ignored, tells me that she is going to hang on to this thing for as long as she can.

Ouch.
While I cant blame her for wanting to maintain that revenue, 4½ years is 2-3 years longer than I was(realistically) hoping.

As to Jody Allen and the Blazers, I am hoping she sells after the new TV contract is signed. There will be a new valuation then. Gives her time to make some crazy money for herself and augment Paul's legacy with a larger return than even he probably ever imagined. If she is still gripping onto the team(s) after the new TV deal, she is just a carpet bagger.

Would be nice. But I think the new valuation would already be priced into the sale of the team.

I doubt this is what she's waiting for. She's a carpet bagger until I see otherwise.

Let's be honest I have nothing against Jody other then the fact she has little to no interest in the Blazers even if she has warmed up a little that is still not a reason to keep the team. I believe to be the owner of ANY team you should be passionate about the team and want them to win and make money in the process and ya I know that is a little pie in the sky as there are some owners who do bare minimum but this is how I feel. I believe as a fanbase we should be trying to apply pressure to her and get her to sell by writing letters / emails etc whatever is needed to put pressure on her. If this means boycotting games , staging a walkout at a game and then have a protest in the parking lot I do not care. This is needed cause if this team is not sold within the next 2 or 3 years maybe sooner we might as well write off the next 5 to 10 years and get used to being below average to pathetic.
