OT White Woman Calls Black Cop The N-Word, Dares Him To Shoot Her And He Obliges

Two things:

That woman is CLEARLY suffering from some kind of mental illness.

If the races had been reversed people would be climbing the fucking walls right now.

IMO a tazer would have been more appropriate.

Also instead of yelling at her to drop the scissors after she was shot he should have just kick it out of her hand.

This dude also had forever to figure out a less than lethal option to use on this one. It took a solid minute for this to play out. It's not like he walked in the door and she charged at him. The cop should, at the very least, lose his job. I don't know if she was trying to do suicide by cop, or if she was just too unwell to know any better, but she didn't deserve to die. I don't care what she called him. She didn't deserve to die.

Totally justified. He gave her every opportunity to stay alive.

Except that she was:

1. Mentally Ill
2. High on Drugs
3. Both

There was definitely a scenario where she was neutralized without having to use lethal rounds on her.

If a person can twist their perspective to the point that it's ok for the government to torture and murder civilians when non lethal and non torturous alternatives are available then there is no limit to how twisted that person's perspective can become.

Nah, fucking cops are too trigger happy. He didn't de-escalate shit and instead might've triggered her. She wasn't threatening with the scissors at first until he kept telling her to put it down (for what?). And he had to shoot twice at a scrawny ass woman with just a scissors walking towards him?

I don't know if they are taught this, but cops should be taught how to disarm people with knifes/scissors.

He could have disarmed her.

Probably could have talked her down if he didn't have his gun out as soon as he went in.

She charged at him with scissors. At that point, him shooting her is self defense.

You want to de-escalate shit, call Mr. Rogers.

Her mental state has no relevance whether or not she was a threat to this officer.

This was murder.
Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not collect $200

He gave her every opportunity to comply.

Told her multiple times to drop the weapon.

She moved from an area with a physical barrier to one without one.

He warned her if he comes at him with the scissors he will put her down.

She charged at him.

It didn't escalate to a deadly force situation until she came around the counter with the scissors in her hand, which put her in a position to potentially attack the cop. He warned her that if she came around the counter with the scissors he would kill her. We might wish for other outcomes, but what he did is consistent with most police departments' deadly force policies. Mental illness or being under the influence of drugs does not mean that she was incapable of stabbing the police officer with the scissors. Police officers are not required to risk personal physical injury in such instances.

Here's an excerpt from a similar incident in Seattle a few years back. There are a couple of differences in this case in that it was a white cop and a black female, and she had a knife instead of scissors:

"Many people have asked why Officers Jason Anderson or Steven McNew fired their weapons on Charleena Lyles, a petite mother of four who was reportedly wielding a knife.

Stuckey personally sat in on Anderson's interrogation with the Force Investigation Team. He said Anderson had both a baton and pepper spray on him. But to use either of them on a knife wielding suspect would have been violating department policy.

"You are supposed to meet deadly force with deadly force," said Stuckey. "If someone pulls a knife out on you, your mindset is that you're going to get cut. But you got to stop the threat, and you're going to use whatever force necessary to stop the threat. And there are times when to stop that threat, you are going to use deadly force."

Stuckey points out that Seattle police officers are trained to have two officers for backup if they're going to use what they call "less than lethal force."

"If I'm going to use my taser, baton, or pepper spray, then someone needs to be standing by with a lethal option in case that less than lethal doesn't work," he said.

The third officer is needed to go "hands on" with a suspect to cuff them once they're down."

I feel like both reactions can be true here. Probably could have found a way to handle this without shooting her dead. Also he was within the rules and had every reason to shoot her. People gotta stop fucking around and paying the consequences sucks for them. I still have to think there are times when you shoot someone in the leg. I know, don’t shoot your gun unless you are shooting to kill but a small lady with scissors? Take out a knee cap and problem solved.

Self defense.

if he had a taser on him he probably should have tried that if another officer was close by. If not he did what he had to do to ensure he would not get stabbed.

Cop did his job. Unfortunate outcome but he is not at fault.

Maybe he should've waited to enter until he had backup.

If he would have tazed her it likely would have incapacitated her and allowed him to disarm and cuff her.

You do hear about people on drugs not bring affected by tazers so that is a possibility I guess.

In the end she did charge him, so I see how it's self defense. It just seems there could have been a better way to resolve the situation.

It was him that escalated the situation. Looks to me like she was just minding her business being probably coked out of her mind talking on the phone with someone. She was already holding the scissors (in a nonthreatening manner) when the cop came in. She didn't go all crazy and threatening until he unjustifiably pulled a gun on her first. Why the fuck did he pull a gun on her? So fucking what that she was holding the scissors (behind the counter where she was not a threat)?

I could go along with the line of thinking that when she charged at him, he had to shoot her (still, if he had a fucking taser, use the damn thing). But his fucking job was to de-escalate the situation, not escalate it to the point where he had to shoot her dead.

Tasers don't always put someone down. Its kill or be killed.

wrong.....tasers will put a big mf'er down ....it's disarm not kill that the guy should have gone for...he could easily wrestle those scissors from her without shooting her and if he did shoot her it should have been in the leg...she'd have stopped

No, they don't always work.

That scrawny ass woman with the scissors wasn't going to be able to kill that cop if he had any training to physically engage with people in such a situation.

Not a guarantee. Stab wound in the jugular would kill him. Unhinged people are unpredictable.

When its your own life at stake, you kill the threat. You don't underestimate anyone.

Her actions caused her death. Nothing more.

If he waits to enter maybe she puts someone else in danger?

I personally would have went with tazing first but i just don't see how this officer is guilty of anything other than self defense.
Its really easy to couch quarterback these things but in reality these things happen fast and when you feel your life is threatened, self defense is the logical recourse.

Anyone ever been in a real knife fight?

If i have a gun, im shooting someone with a knife. It avoida up close confeontation. He doesnt know if she also has another knife or gun in her back pocket.
She created this and she paid for it.
Cop is innocent.
Many assumptions made here that arent afforded to the officer to take time to think it out snd still possibly be wrong.
Is she high on meds? Let me stop an… shit. Stabbed in the jugular….

Were all bad asses until the shit actually happens.
