Who are the best foreign-born players in Blazer history?

I think Sabonis had the best career of the guys mentioned but he was hobbled in Portland and still a force. Notice Detleff Schrempf and Hashim Thabeet are also missing

I think some of the arguments revolve around Petrovic becoming an all-star (I think he did, anyway).

I think Batum will end up being the best foreign player for us.

Sabonis for now though.

It's really only between Sabonis, Drazen and Batum... Look at point totals as Blazers

Sabonis: 5629

Batum: 4726

Petrovic: 663

I would probably go with Sabas but I think Mychal Thompson has to get some consideration.

Mills has to be the tallest aboriginee ever.
I reckon it would be Nate "Outback Shaq" Jawai.

Had Drazen Petrovic played his career longer he would have won this in a landslide. A lot of people forget about just how good Petro was and he wasn't even in his prime. He could have been good like Larry Bird good. The Blazers where first class idiots to let him ever go.

The reason drazen was let go was because he asked to go. So you would rather have drazen than drexler?! I think blaming the organization for allowing Drazen to leave shows lack of BBall IQ.

Who really is the fucking idiot?!

Exactly. There were no minutes for Drazen. We were winning without him. Letting him go was the right decision,

He asked to go because they weren't giving him any time. I never heard that he asked for a starting job.

Yeah there was no time because "Drexler" was their superstar. Drazen could only play SG.

I will ask you again, "do you think drazen deserved to take away minutes from a prime drexler?"

And Danny Ainge off the bench was playing at a high level and had championship experience.

Looked it up. In the 89-90 season, Petrovic played 13 mpg in 77 games and averaged 8 ppg while shooting 46% from the three point line. But we added Ainge the following season and Petrovic' minutes went way down, he only played 18 games and shot 17% from the three point line for us before we traded him to NJ mid season. We went on to finish 63-19 that season.

Drazen won a lot of awards before coming here, died way too young at 28 and was voted greatest European Basketball player in history as well as 2 other Euro awards and is in the HOF. His stint with the Blazers was a small size of his career and he was not used in Portland except for spot minutes off the bench. With the Nets he thrived.

im just gonna leave this here

I've watched this at least 5x since i discovered it, such a sad story of broken friendship and chances to mend relationships lost due to tragedy.

they specifically talk about Drazen and the Blazers @ 35mins, Vlade and Magic.

also a lil footage of Sabas when they played the Soviets.

sorry about the subtitles, couldnt find a clean one.

So you're saying he should have been 'untouchable'. I thought the Blazers fell in love with their players and never let them go?

Petro was my favorite young Blazers player at the time. But there was no room for him at the inn. I was happy with his subsequent success, and saddened by his death.

How is this even a discussion?

Sabonis is easily the best foreign player to play for the Blazers

Was the question, who 'are' the best or who 'is' the best?

I took it as who was some of the best euro born players to ever put on a Blazer uniform. Sabas was mentioned. And I very quickly added Drazen's name. He was a great player. It's too bad we lost him at a young age.

"(Sabonis) has every move there is."

I so thoroughly enjoyed watching that. Shivers. You be repped.

And I quote:

BBert said:
Prime pre-injury, pre-Blazers Sabonis was one of the greatest basketball players in history. Better than that dis-respecting douche Shaq-a-fool even hoped to be.
