I think the question implies untouchable “considering the type of offer they would get”. Clearly nobody saying Clingan untouchable if they are offered SGA. But I would not trade Clingan for any reasonable offer.

I'm somebody and I would NOT take SGA for Clingan, but that's because I want just don't want that flopping, baiting, simpering embarrassment to the sport sullying our team with his disgusting presence. SGA is someone who has loads of talent and can shoot the lights out and yet has the extremely weak level of pride and integrity, falling on his soft ass every time he shoots when there's almost always ZERO contact. At least with.someone like Grant, when he falls down, there's actually some contact that he's trying to sell. SGA loves to go down whenever he gets close to another dude.

Are we talking trades or are we talking an expansion draft?
You get to protect 8 guys in an expansion draft so if it were today I'd protect Dame, Deni, Toumani, Clingan, Shaedon, Scoot, Vit and Sidy. If they wanted to take Jerami and/or Jrue off of our hands so be it. If they want Yang or Murray, great. I'm pretty sure everyone else is a free agent this off season.

That being said the expansion draft is supposed to be in two summers, not this summer, so a lot will change between now and then, including Jrue and Jerami's contracts expiring.

You're saying that untouchable would mean a player who won't fetch what he is worth on the trade market? I think it's a player you wouldn't trade regardless of the offer.

I only think there are 3-6 players at a time in the NBA that are truly untouchable. They've got to be under 30, MVP level, on good terms with the team and locked up on a long term contract. We don't have one of those.

I think you know what an untouchable player is because you mentioned one of the few when you said SGA.
then that would mean zero players are untouchable. You could always find a deal too good to pass up. It might be rare but I’m sure someone could create a deal that would get Jokic or SGA etc.

Just Dame. He has a no trade clause.

We aren't in any position to have untouchables. We've done a shitty job of tanking and we're stuck back in mediocrity again.

Does a no trade clause prevent him from the expansion draft if he is left exposed? I would not think so; that is not a trade so no veto option.

As always, I reserve the right to be wrong.

I looked that up last week and it does not mean we can leave him unprotected. There is no loophole in any no trade clause for expansion drafts.

Good grief. The idea that we can't understand the difference between why Clingan wouldn't be considered untouchable and why SGA and Ant Edwards would is disingenuous. It's cool though. Parse this shit out in all sorts of ways that don't make sense all you want.

We don't have a top guy in the league. if people want to debate that Deni is untouchable, I'd understand that and Dame can't be traded but other than those two any mention of another guy on this team as being untouchable is preposterous and I think intentionally pedantic but again, feel free to redefine a concept that almost all of us have been discussing for decades with something new and senseless.

How are people trying to lookup rules for something that doesn't have rules completed yet?

If you find some rule from some prior expansion draft that's irrelevant... The CBA has changed and this would be a new expansion draft with new rules. There wasn't a no trade clause in the last expansion (2004 or whatever). Even if there was a rule on no trade clause that doesn't mean an upcoming expansion draft would be ruled the same either.

The rules of the expansion draft will be finalized when an agreement for expansion and related processes is finalized.

As a practical manner though I doubt the players union will agree to players with no trade clause being eligible to move teams in an expansion draft. That would defeat the whole point of a no trade clause - the player controls where they play.

We won't know the rules until the owners and players agree on it - but just my guess that seems like something that would be a firm no on the players side and I don't see why owners would care to push back either.

Now could be that a player with a no trade clause counts against a teams 8 (or whatever amount) protected players. That wouldn't surprise me.
