Who Can Make the Nets a Contender?

Let's figure this out.</p>

If there's no one, I hope there's some kind of rebuilding plan in place.</p>

Last year's plan seemed rushed and unfocused.</p>

Pau Gasol, but I doubt he will be available, and Memphis probably doesn't want anything we have.</p>

The Nets could ethier wait until someone comes on the market, or consider other options, such as blowing up the team.</p>

Shawn Marion would be a great fit in this team. He is the efficiency man they need, since they really have no one who is real efficient and no one on the nets ranks even top 15 in efficieny.</p>

Marcus Camby, but his price tag is too high and there is that injury prone thing.</p>

Elton Brand, probably have to wait a year for him if that, but my guess is LA could be looking to cut their loses.</p>

We're getting a brand new starting front court this year that we didn't have last year. </p>

But if I had to go after a name guy not named Kenyon Martin, I'm a bit unsure. People seem to be very opinionated between Gasol and Jermaine. With the Pacers being in our conference I'm quite informed about O'Neal, but how is gasol that much better? Jermaine can rebound, shoot, and score down low. </p>

Elton Brand is out till February at the earliest. And even then who knows when he'll be 100%</p>

As far as I can tell, there's nothing that's gonna get you there short of really rolling the dice on a "talented but troubled" sort of PF. A guy like Randolph, if you could get him for nothing, might have been that guy. </p>

That's not saying he wouldn't have blown up in your face, but he's the only sort of guy I saw who (if he behaved himself) properly filled your hole without likely forcing you to give up any of the big 3 or Krstic. </p>

At the moment, I don't see anyone like that. A year away is probably too far away... I wouldn't rely on Kidd to stay with it, so I'd be looking to nuke it like cpaw said. </p>

Krstic, Collins and Nachbar make between 9 and 10 million.

That's the most the Nets could give up to get this mythical player and contend.

Trading RJ would likely not result in enough of an improvement to put the Nets on another level.

As opposed to a team that is holding onto it's last gasp of air fighting for a playoff spot. Rebuilding at least gives the appearance of hope.</p>
