Not who do you think will be named Romney's running mate, but who would you like to see (if you are leaning toward Romney) or (if you're leaning toward President Obama) who do you think would be the best selection?

I'll start. I don't think he'll be selected, but I would love to see Gov. Romney select Paul Ryan.

Sarah Palin!

Edit: Oh, didn't read closely enough. That's who I'd like to see, not who I think would be best for Romney. Best for Romney is tough. Someone with charisma, so not Portman, not Ryan, not Jindal, not Pawlenty. Who does that leave? Palin?

I was under the impression that rubio "had this". Id like to see one of the governors like walker or Christie. It'll probably end up someone lame and establishment.

its not gonna be a rich white guy, and especially not a fat one

so rubio or jindal it is

I read today that the short list is (supposedly) Portman, Pawlenty, and Jindal. Of the three, I guess I'd say P&P are safe picks who will add absolutely nothing to Romney, Jindal is a Sarah Palin hail mary pass which would mostly show that Romney is not optimistic about his chances.

Chris Christie. So he can fly around everywhere with his helicopter buffet line.

Jindal would be cute, kinda like the Sarah Palin thing. Except this time appeasing to the red dots :)

Rubio. No other mentioned would be even close, IMO.

Yes, yes, and yes.

But I'm not sure that he wants to sign up for it this year, when he might be able to be President after four more years of Obama in the White House.

Ed O.

Then Mitch Daniels.

Condi Rice would be the smart choice. She would cut into Obama's black vote and really put the screws to the woman vote. Plus she's sharp, and is a true compassionate conservative, unlike the rest.

I don't think Jindal has the national name recognition to make his nomination matter, although I think he's a smart politician who would do a decent job.

Paul Ryan or Chris Christie would be a signal that the GOP has no visions of winning the election, and is just trying to build names for 2016.

On the other hand, she's never run for anything before. It's a big gamble to take someone who is not a politician and throw them onstage. Yes, she's been in government, but running for office is something different.

I would think that would be part of her appeal. She's never been "corrupted" and isn't a "politician".

Absolutely, that's part of her appeal. However, it's similar to Palin. Yes, she's an outsider. But because of that, you don't know quite what you are going to get. Do you want to swing for the fences? Romney probably does not, he's a very cautious man.

The fact she was in Bush's administration would create a "she's corrupt" ad campaign and probably be successful. Plus, it would further the thinking that this is just a continuation of Bush/same old same old.

As much as it sounds like I'm joking, I'd go with Palin. She is better now than she was in 08. Probably a little smarter when it comes to how to campaign.

Although whoever they get, they need someone who isn't just an old white person. I don't think Rice would "split" the black vote. It's not like she's in the public eye and it's not like all black people go "ooh look...black person. me vote!"

I agree with Julius about Rice.

Have any of you seen Rubio talk and talk policy? The guy is young, smart, hispanic, from a must-win state, and will likely help Romney cut into a considerable hispanic vote demographic (a dent from 80% obama to 78% could affect results in multiple states).

Strategically, if Romney/Rubio were to win, he'd be in line to run as sitting VP in 8 years. If Romney/someone-else loses, Rubio would have to go up against a Mitch Daniels who should get the nomination.

Gordon Gekko, just so they're on the same page.

Rice would never allow herself to be linked to a racist like Romney, and has said as much.

Plus, she'd lose more white republicans (gobs) than she would bring black democrats (none).

I know I said Paul Ryan in the first post, but Bobby Jindal is a very close second for me. That guy is unbelievably smart.

I'd have respect for Romney if he went with John Huntsman. That's probably my ideal VP candidate. And to be honest, it wouldn't shock me if Romney went that direction. He'd piss off a lot of people on the right, but at this point Romney is trying to capture some of the middle and this is one way to do it.

I just realized you'd have an all-mormon ticket. That probably wouldn't fly with the electorate.

For Obama, I wouldn't be upset if he dumped Biden and went with Hillary. It'd set her up as the favorite for 2016. But I'd love it if he went with Bernie Sanders. It'd never happen though.

Yeah, I'd forgotten all about Huntsman. He's a bit smarmy for my tastes, but I would respect that pick. All-Mormon ticket though? I can just imagine the conspiracy theories.

Hey, how about Herman Cain as VP? Rick Perry? Michele Bachmann? Ron Paul? Rick Santorum?

Romney himself is the most qualified republican to run as VP.

He's got no chance to be President, he'll say anything he's told to say, he's got the hair, the smile, and nobody expects him to actually accomplish anything.

Bobby Jindal.

I'm biased having lived in New Orleans for a while and being friends with members of his team, but biases aside, Louisiana is an extremely corrupt state politically, and compared to his constituents, Jindal has always held the moral high ground, which says a lot given the state's history of corruption.

New Orleans has no higher ground, hence the perpetual flooding.

Yet another post from a lefty talking about racism.

When that's all you have left in the quiver, well...

BTW - here is Romney's racist dad marching for Civil Rights. What a racist!!

What have you done for racial equality? Actually, what have any of the white dudes here slinging around the race card done in real terms for racial equality?

"I know a black guy" doesn't count, honkies.

Don't confuse a politician for a civil rights activist.
