Wow, can one of the Mods please tell me why my original Title of this thread was changed?

I have to assume that it was because the same individual who is notorious for stirring shit up around here got his butt hurt again, and reported it?

No one complained.

I changed the title so there was more of a conversation and debate about Lincoln and Trump instead of making it a thread bitching about conservatives.

C'mon man....liberals and conservatives bitching about each other is done many many times on this board every damn day.

you should've made it a purposely misleading title, like Sly does.

Like, "Even Dems vote for Republican President (Lincoln) as best President EVER"

Exactly. No mod should ever change a title to a thread unless it is a violation of the rules or the thread starter requests it or at minimum a mod asks a thread starter for permission and is agreed on.

I say we march on Washington. I have gathered the troops.

You rabble rouser.

Lincoln is by far the better president. Lincoln was a far better man than Trump will ever be.

The title makes it sound like which republican president in between them (after Lincoln and before Trump) was best. Probably Teddy Roosevelt or Dwight Eisenhower.

One thing that we learned from this poll...Republicans no longer can claim Lincoln or Reagan as their best President ever.

lol...point taken, and I'll keep that in mind.

sorry jonny, you're wrong again.

Definition of most
(Entry 1 of 6)

1: greatest in quantity, extent, or degree the most ability
2: the majority of most people

In the senate and the house the party with the "MOST" members is called the majority whether it's by one or more.

What crappy dictionary is that from?

2: the majority of most people

The majority of most would logically be less than the sum of most, making this definition retarded.

The dictionary is fine, the cut-n-paste, not so much. Here's what it meant:

1: greatest in quantity, extent, or degree
example: the most ability
2: the majority of
example: most people

And yes, 53% is a majority so 53% qualifies as 'most'.

Ha !...it's all Sly's fault...he f'd up the title....he's the one who "screwed the pooch". <---- I'll get banned for that one. :bgrin:

Thank you !

He only did that after he found he was loosing the civil war he started.

Hogwash! The Civil war started in April 1861 after confederates fired their cannons on Fort Sumter.

Also, Lincoln was against slavery from the start and wanted to end it. Hence the ceding of the southern states and formation of the confederate states.

Only when you’re referring to two or more groups would even a fraction more constitute ‘most’. When you’re referring to the whole of one group (such as “republicans”), ‘most’ doesn’t simply constitute a statistical majority. There are contextual nuances to the term.

If I have a cart with 100 apples in it, and I drop 51 of them on my way to the market, I didn’t lose “most” of my apples. I lost a statistical majority, which is NOT the same as “most” in every case.

The only reason I took the time to explain this to you is because I actually think you’re intelligent enough to understand the nuance. And I expect you may actually look further into it. I can’t say the same for the other two who are badgering me on here.

Is that the generic Walmart brand?

Most of us read Merriam-Webster.

Or is Mirriam Merriam’s illiterate cousin?

oh my, a typo. Lock me up. Are you that incapable of figuring it out?

FACT, YOU WERE WRONG IN REGARDS TO WHAT MOST MEANS. OWN UP TO IT AND MOVE ON!

Your idiotic argument is making you look more and more foolish.

Me and you are TWO groups, smart guy. “Republicans” is ONE group. There are nuances to the term based on the context it’s used in and who or what you’re referring to.

It’s over your head clearly.

That has to be why he waited so long to issue the emancipation Proclamation.
"President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, as the nation approached its third year of bloody civil war."
He sure as hell was not winning the war at that point.

===========================================================

Who is the best Republican president between Donald Trump and Abraham Lincoln? For most Republican respondents to a recent poll, the answer is Trump.

In response to the question, “Which Republican president was better?,” more than half (53 percent) of GOP respondents answered “Trump,” while 47 percent answered “Lincoln.”

The poll was conducted by The Economist magazine and polling site YouGov.com.

Lincoln, however, was the preferred Republican president among Democrats (94 percent), independents (78 percent), and the pool of all respondents (75 percent). Lincoln was also tops among men, women and all other categories – except Republicans.

Among Republican respondents to a recent poll, Donald Trump is considered the best GOP president in a comparision with Abraham Lincoln.

There were other mixed results for Trump in a comparison against Ronald Reagan, according to the Washington Times.

In one section of the poll, Republicans were asked to rank Republican presidents on a scale of 1 to 8, with 1 being “best” and 8 being “worst.” Trump was considered the best by 32 percent of Republican respondents, followed by Lincoln (29 percent) and Reagan (27 percent).

But when asked directly whether Trump or Reagan was the better president, 41 percent of Republican respondents said Trump while 59 percent said Reagan.

LMAO!!! I've always thought every American adult should have the right to vote. Republicans are starting to make me doubt myself on that...

The Union won the war due to it's industrial base and the port blockades of the south....the south was never ahead of the game....Union had 2.5 million soldiers...South had 1 million..the only reason it was long and bloody was the stubbornness of the Confederacy in face of impossible odds....they also had a large population of African americans that wanted freedom watching their farms and kids. Lincoln was a great president and not a healthy man throughout the war...plagued with a bum liver from what I've read..Union had 20 states, 5 border slave holding states and the South had 11. Gorilla warfare stretched it out but the South should have surrendered within a few months of the start of the war. Would've saved a lot of lives

The confederates were never winning. Never stood a chance. They were far out numbered by the Union. They were just fucking stubborn. Thought they could start their own country and play war. They thought wrong. They were never going to win. The Confederate States were never going to be recognized.

And in any case, the Civil War was also fought, especially in the beginning, over economic issues. The unfair advantage the South had using slave labor was a major factor in North-South tensions, as was, of course, slavery. But to think it was a war just about slavery is inaccurate.

Grovel at the feet of your Lord and master and he might forgive you. Then repeat these words "Oh, mighty Sly, creator of this forum and highest judge of the Blazerland forum, please oh highest exultant one, I beg of you for your most merciful forgiveness. As a token for my transgression I am presenting this $100 bill to Lanny on your behalf."

Okay, that might have been 1% of the reason but let there be no doubt that the overwhelming reason was to eliminate slavery.
