I am not sure why you wish to speculate on the motivations of people in the South as if that is different. I imagine there are fools in the North that would fancy a Slave if they had a Genie in the bottle.
There are those most everywhere, and some more with other dumb-ass fancies.
 
Using the word MOST is a grammattic attempt to deceive by implying a wide disparity when in this case it is infinitesimal.

The author deliberately bypassed more accurate words/phrases to convey a false narrative.

Example:

If there is a Senate trial to impeach, a 2/3 (67%) majority vote is required to impeach.

53% ain't even close.

Lanny, that's the really sad part...the individual/s we are referring to have seemingly turned into a clone of Trump. They do not recognize facts, even when they are faced with a plethora of evidence.

In some ways it reminds me of how Hitler came to power.
