OK, thanks for answering my question, barfo. I just have never seen or heard of this poster on this site.

He is new to the site. We are looking to expand our borders and we needed a commissioner to lead the NBA forum.

He's new to this board, but a legend among mods. When he posts, children dream of one day being like him. When he posts, women enjoy spontaneous pregnancies. And when he posts, men race to the ocean and swim away towards foreign shores.

barfo

That is just inconvenient. Spontaneous orgasms would be much more practical.

I don't believe this was Ed's doing. Also, I think irrational decisions are just a personal style, nothing to do with grand plans, but Ed can correct me on that if I'm wrong. ;)

I make no decisions, irrational or otherwise, in life. I prefer to keep my options open.

Ed O.

I hate September...I actually read this entire thread...so bored...Fuck the Lakers!

Its a legitimate question. Until this past week, I had barely 50 posts on this site and not everyone knows me from elsewhere. I appreciate the support expressed from those who do know me.

I was an administrator/owner at Basketballboards.net (now basketballforums.com) from 2002-2007 or so. Truebluefan and I were pretty much the constants during that time as owner/admins. MikeDc and Denny Crane (then DaBullz) got their first mod offers there from me. First Denny and then Mike (through some back and forth/on again off again moves) eventually became owners there as well. I've been online friends with Minstrel forever and with other people on this site, current and past -- Petey, for instance. I remember Ed O. from way back. Also, internet posting legends like The Rifleman. And former bbb admin/Blazers fan/ESPN producer Gym Rat. And Bulls insider/Chicago Tribune blogger Doug Thonus. And stats guru Dan Rosenbaum. Its been a great ride.

When I left BBB I was a moderator and Global moderator at RealGm for a number of years and recently left there due to some internal conflict.

Along with TrueBluefan, MikeDc, Denny and our other partners, we turned bbb.net from a little baby site with a couple of hundred posts into a 5 million plus post site in just a few years. I'm proud of that accomplishment and it paid off pretty well when we sold the site to investors -- but the boards suffered at the hand of the new ownership, IMO. My experiences at RealGm gave me some insight to helping run a mega-size site, even though I never got a chance to do it at an admin level. I've seen things around me come a long way from when one of our BBB business partners put the server costs on his credit card every month because our ad revenues didn't cover expenses. Long after he'd stepped down from active ownership, I was more than glad when we were able to send him a check to pay him back those expenses, plus a little something.

When I left RealGm, Truebluefan, followed by Denny Crane and MikeDc approached me about helping out here. I was flattered to know they respected my abilities. I had a great phone conversation with Denny.

Anyway, I do understand people questioning who I am since my presence here has been very light but I hope for your patience and understanding. I do my best to help boards grow and have a decent track record. And I've made a lot of really good friends along the way.

Why did you remind me about Petey? I miss that guy.

I do have one question though. Assuming we get this site active and one of the top sports forums on the web, will you all be sticking around or will your be going on to your next test?

based on the avatar picture, I recommend starting with option A (left) moving on to option B (right) returning briefly to option A before heading south.

I had a feeling your presence will be felt in this thread once your picture was used, probably without permission.

So what you are saying is that even MikeDC could not pimp Danny Crane's ride, so they had to hire someone else?

Actually, we tried to conference in MikeDc but his voice mail said he couldn't come to the phone because his pimp was riding him.

So Tom you a Bulls fan?

Yes, sir. I became a basketball fan watching the 1979 NCAA finals (Magic, Michigan State/Larry, Indiana State). I was in middle school. Around that time, my dad took to to St. Joe's HS to watch Isiah Thomas play. My first NBA experience was going to my local public high school (I was a freshman at a Catholic college prep school) to watch a preseason Bulls/Golden State game. That was 1980 and the fact that a Bulls game played in a high school gym, even preseason, should tell you about the state of the league. It was cool though, because you could wander about and I stood at the sidelines next to the players and it was pretty amazing to see how tall and how skinny the guys were. That was Lyons Township HS gym and I went there over the next few years watching my cousin play a year behind this skinny kid named Jeff Hornacek.

So anyway, yes, I am a Bulls fan. I was a pre-Jordan, suffering Bulls fan and became a complete die-hard once MJ arrived and never lost a minute of allegiance in all the years since then. Of the teams the Bulls played in the Finals, I pretty much hated the Jazz, as I considered Malone to be a felon in a basketball uniform. The other teams the Bulls faced, I was glad we beat them but respected the teams. Sonics, Suns, Lakers...all great teams. But I think I liked that Blazers team the most. So much talent. So much class and grace. Clyde was one of my favorite players ever. Phi Slama Jama. Duck, Cliff, Kersey, Porter. (Sorry, never did like Ainge, no matter what team he was on). But a great organization at that point.

and Portland is still a class A behind the scenes organization. A few years ago I had a colleague who had a son with a brain tumor. I used what NBA connections I had and contacted PR departments looking for hats, etc., to boost the kid's spirits. The Blazers are the team that came through the biggest, with an autographed hat, an autographed Rip City mag, and a whole box of trinkets. I got responses from some other teams but even the home town Bulls didn't give as much. I was really impressed with the way they reached out to help.

Glad the Blazers helped like they did. It's the little things like that which help cement a lifelong relationship with a team.
