I like Gearhart for the beach and Seaside for restaurants and entertainment. My brother and I always went up to Camp Rilea in Warrenton and then we'd eat at a little restaurant in Warrenton that was good, Can't remember the name, though.

Canon Beach was fun when I was a little boy 'cause I could climb all over the rocks, harass star fish and kill mussels. I was a typical little boy who liked to harass the critters.

Lincoln City used to be part of the 20 Miracle Miles.

Go to Gearhart if you want to dig razor clams and just north of Tillamook if you want to dig mud clams with your garden tools.
When I was younger I used to go clamming when we would stay at fort stevens state park. The Iredale shipwreck is fascinating and so is battery russell. Seaside is great for the entertainment aspect, I would sink hours at the arcade every summer. A lot of great beaches on the coast, seems like each offer their own little thing

Any buffet can be decent if they use good quality food and keep it hot and fresh.

When the M casino buffet opened it was amazing. Went back a year or two later and it was terrible. Same menu but just bad. The Kalbi ribs that were once excellent you could barely chew.

They started getting bad reviews and it seemed like they stepped their game back up last time we went. Not as good as when it opened but pretty damn good.

Been at the beach since Tuesday.

Just got home.

Private message box full.

Apparently multiple snowflakes have put each other on ignore. Really cute but sad.

If I find personal insults in these threads I'm just going to close them. Don't feel like editing or deleting bullshit.

bOut time slacker. No vacations for you. See what happens when you do????
So did you like that picture of the 2018 Blazers Roster? That was my fave and the one that had me turning the corner to callout for a banhammer!!! So, I guess better late than never... but we are docking your pay for the time you were away!!!!!

id like to report this post for calling people snowflake. Which by the way are beautiful but cold.

They are not. They are cold and beautiful. You know nothing!!!

Sweet, I just got to ban someone.

Powertripping!!!!!

I grew up spending a great deal of time in Lincoln City (my grandparents retired there when it was still three separate cities) and Pacific City. I hated LC as a kid and I’m not much fonder of it now. Twenty Miserable Miles that needed a bypass 50 years ago (before the outlet mall and the casino) and needs one now even more so. It just boggles my mind on how much of a bitch it is to get from one end to the other. It has great beaches but access leaves something to be desired. My late uncle was a successful businessman in LC for almost 50 years and used to be on the casino’s “Wall of Fame” for all his winnings. His total was impressive.......until one realized he still hadn’t won anywhere near what he had spent......

Pacific City is more my speed. It used to be one of the best kept secrets on the coast, especially once they banned the dune buggies in the late 60’s. Despite being off the beaten path, it’s getting more crowded every year. But it’s still funky (and less crowded than most places) and the tourists usually congregate at the Cape and the Pelican Brewpub. I go down at least monthly to run the dog and then hang out at the Sportsman Pub. I hate giving away my secrets but..... Sporty’s at the 4 way stop in PC is one of the greatest dive bars in Oregon (if not the West Coast.). The food is outstanding (fresh line caught ling cod fish and chips), portions generous and the prices amazingly reasonable. And it’s only recently that they upped their price of a good pint to $4.25. Mixed drinks are a bargain also. All that and the best part is that the vast majority of tourists avoid it like the plague based on appearance alone. Just the way the locals like it........it’s a great place to while away a few hours in relative peace.

And casino buffets are an acquired taste. I have yet to find one worth the price......

As a kid in the 60's I spent a lot of time at Lincoln City as my great grandmother had a house there and we would go down many weekends during the summer. That was way before Lincoln City became a tourist attraction and became a much bigger city like it is today. It was a nice small coastal town. Use to walk from her place to a swimming hole on the D River where Hwy 101 crossed over the river, The ocean was a 10 minute walk one way and D Lake a 5 minute walk the other way from where she lived as she lived on the hill right above the main part of downtown. That was when the big eating places were Lil Black Sambos and The Pixie Kitchen and The Surftides was the premier ocean front hotel.

My parents inherited a house in Pacific City well before the city became a tourist haven. The house we owned was next door to Ramblin Rod's brothers place and two houses down from there Ramblin Rod had a place. My dad and I use to drive right on to the beach and watch the dory boats launch and come in.

For most of my childhood we camped with friends up at the Cape (before the campground got fancy). The family we camped with had part ownership in one of the last of the double ended dories (the kind that had to be rowed through the surf before powering up the engine). I caught my first salmon (not to mention endless bottom fish) right off Haystack Rock. The dories still go out but there is nowhere near the number that used to exist. As the folks got older we stayed at a rental house on the east side of the river. In 1976 my parents bought a tiny little place (old WWII housing that had been trucked down from Portland in two pieces in the late 40’s) on the west bank of the river (right beside the path of the sewage plant discharge pipe). An ideal spot that provided great memories for the whole family. When my dad passed 2 years ago my sister bought the place, so now I stay at the Surf “N Sand. I’m glad they banned the dune buggies for environmental reasons, but that whole dune buggy culture was wild back in the day. Some of those machines were works of art. My tightwad dad even got caught up in it, buying a decrepit old bucket of bolts that buried itself anytime the tires hit the sand. Some of the best memories of my life involve Pacific City......

Actually, I was already well into it by then. But I was certainly the King Kibitzer while the project was underway. I’m sure the contractors were more than happy when I wasn’t around.....

S2 is like the govt...us old geezers need to retire and let the young folks take over for once and for all damnit!

I believe the Peter Iredale is about gone by now. The last time I saw it must have been 15 or 20 years ago, it was about gone at that time. When I was a young kid, it was really quite a sight.

There used to be a great restaurant, the Oceanside, overlooking the ocean right near the major beach access road in Gearhart. We were eating dinner there one early evening when the Russian navy steamed by close enough so you could count the ships. It was part of a tit for tat game that our two navies played.

It's a job site. You should check it out.

Hey, I applied for a job there. They took one look at my hands and said "those are almost as small as Trump's. We can't use you."
