I was thinking about our most recent success years. Unfortunately post Mattingly. So I thought I'd take a quick look. Now keep in mind that Cashman took over from Watson in 1998. How much power he had exactly in his 1st year or so I'm guessing was minimal at best. So, who do we thank for.............

Bernie Williams (Debut 1991)
Jorge Posada (Debut 1995)
Derek Jeter (debut 1995)
Andy Pettitte (debut 1995)
Mariano Rivera (debut 1995)
Paul O'Neill (Trade with the Reds 1993)
David Cone (Signed as a free agent 1995)
Tino Martinez (Trade with Seattle 1996)
David Wells (Signed as a free agent 1997)
Chuck Knoblach (Trade with Minnesota 1998)
Scott Brosius (Signed as free agent 1998)
Roger Clemens (Trade with Toronto 1999)
Mike Mussina (Signed as free agent 2001)

Then for the many roll players that came on board. So what do you guys think?

A no brainer no doubt. I'd rather have Watson at the helm any day any year....Keep in mind ol' buddy, when I say "recent years' to this old fart (me), heck that could mean in the last 20 years....

You know how it goes, when 96-03....seems more like only 5 years ago, (to this old mind only perhaps)...than the 11-18 years it has actually been.....like Rumplestiltskin, I just woke up....and as many years have passed me by...!

Even tho' it was Cash-Man, or blank check man, who received W.S. Rings, which Watson set him up to get...I give Open Check Book Man, little to no credit for those Series Victories, of 96-On...! I really doubt Brian would have more than 1 Series Ring if it had not of been for the prior work by Bob Watson....

BTW-didn't the Titanic sink last year, or was that a decade ago...?

I just finished reading Torre's "The Yankee Years", and those memories seem like only a few years back at most.....! No doubt the Cash-Man is not comparable to carry Watson's briefcase.....:sigh:

Then again, I know this club would be ran with a stronger hand if King George were still alive...IMHO...!

Gene Michael deserves much of the credit also as it was he upon taking over as GM in 1990 that he drafted Rivera, Pettitte, Jeter & Posada & also orchestrated the deal with the Cincinnati Reds that brought us Paul (The warrior) O'Neill.

Gene Michael was the architect and he would still be right now 100 times better than clueless man

Gene Michael put the core together. The proper pieces then had to them be added from the outside to make them champions.

And then they brought in this 31 year old nobody (Cashman) who instead of continuing what Michael started, fucked the process up instead.

The thing is once you start that habit of just writing huge checks it's hard to stop.
