The Oilers made a huge mistake drafting Yakupov over some of the top defenseman available. There was no reason for it but incredible stupidity. They already had several top talents offensively on the team.
They need 3-4 players like Dorsett and Boyle who can play hockey at even strength without letting up goals to the other team.
31 is correct though. The fact those morons haven't traded off somebody like Yakupov, Eberle or Gagne for some top role player depth or defenseman help is moronic.
For example, I don't want Yakupov because I don't trust Russian players to play in the NHL. However, if the Rangers offered Allen, Lindberg, Dorsett and Talbot for Yakupov, the Oilers would be beyond stupid not to do that. I consider all 4 of those guys locks to play 10 years in the NHL and help a team not give up goals. I think Lindberg will eventually be a top 3rd line NHL center who is awesome on draws. I consider Dorsett an excellent 4th line forward. I think Allen can be a very good, 5th defenseman type. Cam gives the Oilers a goalie that can actually stop the puck. However, the Oilers thinking is they need a star at every position and that is not how you build a team. If you proposed that trade on HF the idiots on that board would lose their mind. All they look at is offensive numbers. They value no defense at all on that board. I think Yakupov is just as likely to bolt for the KHL in 5 years as he is to be a top NHL player.
