That makes zero sense since best player available is subjective.

Rose got more of the national spotlight than Beasley did (in terms of making it farther into the NCAA tourney and having more press attention isolated on him), so I guess it's understandable why Rose is everyone's hot prospect right now, but lets not forget that Beasley put up numbers better than Kevin Durant. I mean look at these monster games he put up. Sheesh do I see multiple 40+ point, 15+ rebound games? A 30/20? Holy smokes.

Also, Claud, I have no idea how you could feel so strongly about him being a bust; part of me doesn't want to know.
</div>

Yes it does, neither are consensus #1, since there's a debate, it will all come down to which posistion is the weakess on the team.

Is Beasley really a legit 6'10" as advertised or is he 6'8"? Is he really a power forward or do you think he will end up playing a lot of small forward? I honestly don't follow college basketball enough to know the answer to either one, and they would be big factors in my decision.

Josh Smith is 6'9 and one of the best young PF in the game. David West is 6'9 and a all-star PF. Elton Brand 6'8. You don't have to be a legit 6'10 to be a great PF in this league.

Just like Carmelo who is 6'8" 230 and is a SF. I realize Beasley isn't 6'2" but saying height doesn't matter isn't very smart if you are going to pass up a guy like Rose. I've heard/read that Beasley may end up playing small forward in the league. You wouldn't take that into account?

B-Easy would rather be a SF than a PF, but he could easily adapt to either position. He gained some muscle mass at K-State to prepare him for playing inside, plus the K-State staff are big believers in strength training.

Beasley could drop some weight and be just fine as a SF or he could continue adding muscle mass and be fine at PF. Position wise, it really won't matter on offense because he'll bring the same combination of skills to either position and a coach would be nuts not use his full arsenal of scoring methods.

He has great upperbody strength, and very athletic, has shown the ability to play inside. He was grabbing rebounds over DeAndre jordan when they both match-up. Jordan has a good 2 or 3 inches on him, and is athletic himself.

DeAndre Jordan averaged 6 boards a game this year. He's about as raw as they come. I wouldn't make too big a deal out of the matchup in that game.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (o.iatlhawksfan @ May 14 2008, 05:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>DeAndre played inconsistent minutes, which is why his rebound was up and down.</div>

Jordan did nothing to earn more minutes

I remember reading that his coaching staff kept benching him, to try to get him to come back a shopmore year.

What if you drafted a PF #2 and he was so physically underdeveloped he had to play shooting guard all season?

Could he still win Rookie of the Year?

I've read that people compare DeAndre Jordan to Dwight Howard physically.

The only problem with this is that DeAndre Jordan had a year of college and is older than when Dwight came out. Yet he's a lot more raw, unpolished, and less ready to play in the NBA than Dwight was in 2004. He most likely needs to go back to school, but somebody will get hooked on his potental and take him in the top 10.

If you draft a guy to play PF and he's not developed enough to even play the SF, what makes you think he will ever be big and strong enough to consistently play PF in the league? Is he really going to match up against Kobe in his rookie year and then Pau Gasol the year after?

That's what he played in college, just like Beasley.

Last year at this time Durant was the second coming. People wanted to take him over Oden. This year Beasley put up the same numbers, he's much more physically developed, had weaker teammates and the hype isn't even half of what Durant got.

Who cares about Beasley's height? Neck length doesn't matter, your standing reach and wingspan do.

Actually, Beasley played a lot of Center for K-State with Walker playing PF

K-State didn't win as much as Texas did, so the media sheep didn't put up the hype. Also, B-Easy isn't as good of a story as Durant because B-Easy got in trouble for pulling pranks at his prep schools.

Exactly.

If you posted "Who should the Nets take, Durant or Rose?" I wonder what the voting would look like.

Rose is a great player, but this is about who the Nets should draft.

I think Durant has more upside than Beasley, cause his ability to play out side and create his own shot, and the potential he has to play inside, if he add the muscle.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ghoti @ May 14 2008, 08:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Rose is a great player, but this is about who the Nets should draft.</div>

The only problem I have with this statement is we have no clue who the Nets are. We traded away our identity and while we got some nice young pieces we do not have a true player to build around at this point. I personally feel this is a very transitional roster where no one is safe (duh). There's a good possibility we could have complete roster overhaul in 1 to 2 years and you have to ask which player is better to build around from scratch. There's plenty of merit to both Beasley and Rose no question and while Beasley may be the better answer to the current squads problems some, like myself, question his ability to be the leader despite putting up the numbers. He blusters like nobody's business and may have no problems doing so but I am still impressed by the major strides Rose has already made and the quiet way he's done it.

I drool at the idea of having Rose molded by a coach who preaches defense and can help set the team mindset at the top of the key staring down the guy he's guarding. Derrick is a guy who to me could bring our team back to what made it so successful with his defense, speed, athleticism, and aggressiveness. But again, that's only my 2 cents and really if we were to choose Beasley in no way would we be kicking ourselves too hard.

We know full well Rod wants to keep this team competitive so there is little doubt in my mind he would go with Beasley.

Durant may have more potential than Beasley, but these reasons don't make any sense.

Beasley has a great outside game, can create his own shot and he already has the muscle to score inside in the NBA.

I agree with reganomics. For me what seperates Beasly and Rose is leadership. Like i said before i take rose over beasly.

reganomics, that was the best argument ive read for rose over beasley.

If we were to go third, who would you take? I'm guessing Mayo would be the consensus choice.
