Fred Jones for Planinic? That wouldn't happen even if Larry Bird were Rod Thorn's brother. You would have to give up at least a first round pick along with Planinic to even make Bird consider the trade. Be real, how good is Planinic right now? How good can he be? He's not been able to play backup minutes at the PG spot behind Kidd and that's why Rod Thorn brought in Travis Best last season and Jeff McInnis this upcoming season. A third string PG for a 6th man capable of starting on a very good team?

I would throw in a 2nd rounder with Planinic for Fred Jones...but that is the most....Jones is a solid role player. But not a potential starter on any team in this league...so I dont understand why the Pacers would want a first rounder for him. Zoran's main problem in my opinion aside from slow of foot on defense...is that he doesnt have or know what position is meant for him in this league. He isnt a point guard in my opinion, yet he spent his rookie year and 2003-04, trying to play that position. Last year, Coach Frank finally gave him legitimate minutes playing off the ball at the two/three. And he had some success before the injury. The problem now is the Nets dont have the time for him to now develope a complete two guards/small forward game....I think he has to improve his range...and get stronger on defense before he can contrubite as a wing player.
 
A team like Orlando could really use Zoran. He's a smarter player than Steve and allow Francis to play shooting gaurd while he's on the floor..You think we can throw in a 2nd rounder and get Battie? They wanted Jacque Vaughn earliar this year, maybe throw him in too?

What's the deal with Reggie Evans? Is there a way to sign and trade for him?

Honestly, we dont really have anything to give for Evans...trade exception is all gone...so nothing else is left that would be attractive to the sonics.


And Plaininc + Vaughn for Battie wouldnt work salary wise...only thing that probably would work..would be Collins for Battie straight up. But Iam not for sure that that makes us better at this point.

Jones started for the Pacers when Stephen Jackson / Ron Artest got suspended for the infamous brawl at the Palace. He also started at the point when Jamaal Tinsley got injured and actually did a pretty decent job. Fred Jones also attracts more fans since he's a dunk contest champion and all, but Planinic doesn't do that.

When I said not a starter in this league, I meant over a full 82 game stretch...not as a fill in starter. I dont see a team giving Fred Jones a regular starters role...take last year for example when Artest and Jax first got suspended...he was killing the league as a starter(Jones)...but as teams got more familar with him as a starter he cameback down to earth...so that early success had a bit to do with the elemt of surpise, teams can sometimes get cuaght off guard when they arent familar with a certaion guy playing a different role then what they are use to him playing....see Flip Murray filling in for Ray Allen two seasons ago...or Lu Harris filling in for Kerry Kittles.

I didn't bother checking salaries. I was just thinking something along those lines. They could've thrown in a small contract.

Full-time starter or fill-in starter, Planinic isn't either one of them. Fred Jones is much better than Planinic, period.

No doubt, where did you even see me try to agrue, which guy was better...I said that Jones is not worth a 1st rounder and Zoran Planinic(with the 1st rounder holding the most wieght in the deal clearly). I think that Jones is worth Zoran & a 2nd rounder, not a 1st. I would not give up a 1st for a guy who doesnt have any chance of being a starter, period.
 
2nd rounder plus a scrub isn't going to get you a 6th man off a top 5 team in the East, especially when that team is run by Larry Bird.

I didnt say Bird and Indy would bit,they wouldnt bit off the simple fact that wouldnt help a conference contender add more depth. I said that is all he is worth in my opinion. Its not a knock on him but it is no way, I would give a 1st rounder for a undersized 2...who wouldnt start...I dont care if he is coming from, top 5 team or not. I doubt the Pacers are getting 1st round draft pick offers from any teams for Jones.
