Well? (Assume you are forbidden from trading the pick, including trading down, so whomever you pick becomes a Blazer.)

Kidd-Gilchrist and its pretty easy.

Are you prepared for the howls of protest when he averages about 5ppg his rookie season? Does it worry you that the player he's most compared with is Gerald Wallace?
(Oh, and don't forget to fill in the poll.)

I put MKG because I think this team needs that kind of leader, and I think he will become more than he is now. However, if Drummond blew up in workouts and looked motivated and aggressive, then I would take him first. I don't think he is going to show that though.

I don't let those silly comparisons that draft websites make up consume my brain. Gerald Green was the next Tracy McGrady, while Rajon Rondo was most compared with Mookie Blaylock. Brandan Wright was compared to Chris Bosh, while Marc Gasol was most compared to Todd MacCulloch (true story).

He'll average more than 5ppg his rookie year and he'll immediately be a top 5 perimeter defender in the league from the get go.

Tough call....

I picked Thomas Robinson...I think his interior presence would mesh well with Aldridge on the frontline...

Drummond is real boom\bust...too risky for me...

MKG would be a good choice as well....

Robinson plays mean.

But he's a PF and nothing but a PF.

Just like LaMarcus.

I take Robinson and move lma to center. really hard to pass on mkg though. id flip flop on it and try and trade batum for a c, if that happens mkg if not then Robinson.

Marc Gasol was most compared to Todd MacCulloch (true story).

Accurate comparison. MacCulloch was improving fast before disease ended his career. He would have reached Marc Gasol's level. A tragically forgotten Canadian.

Agreed. Of them all, I ask myself who's the surest thing? And it seems like Robinson is the obvious answer.
Drummond has huge Michael Olowokandi potential.
Beal is 6'2" and not particularly athletic AND not supposed to be a great defender, so he'd have to be pretty fucking amazing to be a star in spite of all that.
MKG I dunno. But it's very very rare that people learn to shoot after they come to the NBA. I like that suddenly people are drooling over elite defenders, but it would be nice to know that he could buy a bucket in the NBA. Remember Stacy Augmon? He was supposed to be all-world defense, too, with an offense that would come around. And Andre Iguodala and Gerald Wallace are really nice complementary players, but at this stage we need more than that.

It's perhaps not surprising that the #2 pick has such huge bust potential. Outside of Isiah Thomas, Alonzo Mourning, Jason Kidd and Kevin Durant, it's a history of heartache.

Another poster who eschews green ink.

MKG was a 50% shooter from the field. You have to realize not everyone can score a ton on a team loaded full of lottery talent. He averaged 8 rebounds a game at the SF position. Calipari has even called him the anchor of their defense and the captain of the team.

Put MKG in a system that looks to get out in the open court and he thrives.

If we could land an MKG and Marshall draft it would be fantastic. An A+ draft. There is no risk in MKG. He'll be an impact player from the get-go. Future AS.

But he can't hit a jump shot. At all. Every scouting report I've read says that, and adds that his form is so funky it's no wonder. That's okay if you're Dwight Howard or Shaq, but it's not ideal in a wing. How much PF did he play in college?

It's funny, because I'm usually the guy arguing for players with "intangibles", the "glue guys", the "great lockerroom influences." I'm just not used to seeing them ranked #2 on most people's mocks.

[Edit: I know who he makes me think of: Corey Brewer! Another guy who was a "game changer" on defense and just the greatest guy in the world and who would be SURE to come around in the pros. Also a member of an amazing college team so his fairly low stats could be explained away.]

TRob for sure. I think he'll end up as the 2nd best player from this draft.

I like MKG's defense and motor. He's also the youngest in his class (9/26/93)

The system will have a lot to do with how he develops.

His most prolific source of offense came from pushing the ball in transition, getting out on the fast break as well as any non-guard prospect in this draft. His size, strong frame, aggressive mentality and physical nature all help him out tremendously with his forays to the rim, as he simply refuses to be denied once inside the paint. Kidd-Gilchrist finishes 71% of his field goal attempts on the fast break, according to Synergy Sports Technology, which is #1 amongst all draft prospects.

I'm convinced you haven't watched him play at Kentucky.

I'd take whoever had the most trade value for a team that I wanted to trade with.

Depends on the measurements at the pre-draft camp.

If Robinson is a legit 6'9" and has a decent wingspan, he's the obvious choice, IMO. I think he'll measure to be smaller, though. So, in that case, I have no clue. Do you take a chance on Drummond? Will MKG become an elite SF? Will Beal measure to be Wade-like, or Bayless-like?

While Brewer was a good defender in college. He wasn't nearly the anchor of Florida's defense or the leader of the team like MKG was for Kentucky. I never like Brewer as a prospect because he was too slight of frame. MKG is built like a great wing defender should.

I would soooooo love to see a lineup of Batum, MKG, Aldridge at the 2-4 positions. Add in Marshall, or another good (non-cupcake-loving) passing PG and that team would be a lot of fun to watch.

I think that is my current dream situation. Get MKG with pick 2 or 3, and then get Marshall or bring in someone to push the break.
