Who's Behind This Mess?

It is common knowledge that Allen was behind both the Z-Bo and Miles contracts. In fact, we bid against ourselves in both those deals.

Now, I would expect Allen to learn from his mistakes, so I don't think Allen is behind the Hedo signing. The free agent market IS behind it. Hedo isn't the best player in the world, but he is the best one available.

If you want a conspiracy you can always find one. The reality is Portland can't really get anyone else better.

Silly notion.

The "reality" is every player in the league is available by trade, and the FA market will always be the source of mediocre, overrated, aging players and nothing more.

Smart teams use the draft and trade, ignoring the refuse in the FA heap.

This is what the 09 plan is? forced to spend on table scraps?

Like I said, Tom Penn and KP for overestimating cap flexibility.

How about this then.

Hedo is the best player available for the kinds of moves it appears KP is willing to make.

In all fairness, they did get screwed by the Miles situation.

Though really that money wouldn't have been very useful this off season anyway.

Why do you think I was so bummed when the trade deadline came and went? Because I knew what free agents were available this summer.

They didn't get screwed by the Miles situation. I was bummed when we planned to clear cap space for 2 years away. Like I said back then, its Imaginary because you don't know what the market is going to be like. We had names like CP3 being thrown around and players of that level, now its just boiled to Blazer fans trying to justify why Hedo Turkolu is the answer?

we were also supposed to be able to take back big contracts in trades. DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW CAP SPACE WORKZ? LOLZ?

I understand that there is a common perception around the league that having Vets tudor younger players works.. I'm saying I don't buy it.

You don't get to see Oden playing against Przybilla in practices. I'm sure he learns a lot from it.

I also don't put a lot of stock into what Professional athletes say... have you ever heard an MLB player talk about how to hit?

ALL THE TIME.

Its funny - alot of what they say is completely opposite of what they do. It may feel like Steve Nash could tudor Sergio, simply by watching him play.. but I don't think that really makes a difference.

just my two cents.

As I pointed out, the teams play 3-on-3 or 5-on-5 in practice. If Sergio destroyed the 1st stringers, he'd have been out there in the games. Same with Bayless.

...Toronto has thought it over and realizes he's not much of a player ...

So because Toronto is unwilling to cut three to five players and overpay, which they would be doing by paying $1.25M to $2M per season more, they've determined "he's not much of a player". It couldn't be that the cost is more than they can pay?

Your thought process here doesn't make any sense. It's like you're looking for an opportunity to bash Turk and/or Pritchard for wanting to bring him in.

... and the rest of the league is passing on him when they had opportunity for a sign & trade.

You act as if ORL has no say in the matter. You know what the "rest of the league" has offered? ORL made their choice. They've decided to deal a couple of bit players and a solid prospect for Vince Carter; then seemingly allow Turk to walk. I think it's a good move by them and would believe it was their best option at upgrading their team.

Again, you're trying to discount Turk's value to Portland with some flawed logic, IMO.

Pretty much the only team that wants this no defense, shoots well in 1 of 5 games player is us.

Again, more baseless takes. I don't get it. And, for that matter, posters have already proven that he does play defense. The stats prove it. The naked eye can see it as well, at least the people I run with. Why are you ignoring this? Because it doesn't fit your opinion of him?

And on top of that, we want to pay him like a star player- which he isn't even close to.

We want to pay him like a quality starter. Star players make more.

I can't respond to the rest. You've got me worked up.

Well, LOL, true to your board name, youor basketball knowledge is definately mediocre.

You're no Prophet. In fact, in recent memory, I can't recall a prediction you've made that really panned out. You seem to state a lot "facts" and then don't back them up. You're like the equivalent of a person that smacks someone upside the head and runs before the afflicted knows who hit them.

I may be wrong. It's just this is the impression I get from you. It gets sort of tiring.

I ageree- Paul Allen is a whiner and this current 'whine' of his may close our championship window of opportunity for the next 5 years. His obsession with certain players (like Miles) hurts us in many ways.

Good observation, e_blazer about PA.

He was talking about you fams.

Think outside the box....perhaps this is all just leverage to get another FA (say Ariza perhaps?) or team to cough up what we really want.

However the simplest answer is that we really want Hedo. I'm not ecstatic about it but its a solid upgrade and I think he'll compliment Roy well.

Yeah, I can just picture Paul Allen on his yacht, sailing toward his secret skull shaped island, pushing buttons that activate the mind control device inside Kevin Pritchard's head. "Do my bidding..."

Actually...I recall that what Paul Allen said about Darius Miles was...'He's cool.' or something like that. You know...Miles WAS the best player on our team the year he got re-signed, so it's not as if we weren't going to try to re-sign him anyway. We simply overpaid. That's the mistake. And that wasn't Paul Allen's mistake.

Paul Allen may indeed have said 'let's win a championship next year.' Let's say that he DID say that. Now it's up to Kevin Pritchard to go about that in the best way possible. He's not going to mortgage the future to win ONE championship. he's said that numerous times. And Paul Allen doesn't want him to. You guys are imagining things that there is no evidence for at all. If we sign Turkoglu, it's probably because it was the best realistic option.
