Less than a month and a half before the end of the world Mayan Style. I need to stock up on beer and weed.

If the world were truly ending, fuck the kiddie stuff... let's stock up on opiates and cocaine!

I'd rather a speedball kill me than the fires of the Apocalypse.

Seems like the end of the world would be your doing!

i really hope it doesnt, kinda scary if i think too much about it

thats why nobody posted in this thread, they want to pretend they arent thinking about it too

When it comes I won't even notice, 'cause I'll be too busy looking good.

I absolutely dread that day. There are going to be so many people hurt that day from stupid people

I did recently decide to be better stocked up just in case any natural disaster hits. Not much, but got a big first aid kit, 7 days food and water and got extra batteries for my flashlight. I figure that's enough. Considered a gun, but I don't really like the idea with kids in house.

For lulz? Or social commentary?

Religion is a choice. It isn't sacred or beyond reproach or criticism.

Not even saying I agree with Cross, it was just a fitting comedic piece to the overarching story line of the thread.

Get an airtight container and bury it in the yard.

I'm no fan of guns, but I can understand there are times when someone might want one.

hmm as I have noted, the thread had nothing to do with religion. It is based upom the ending of the Mayan calander..

you show of contempt, to use this thread to take a cheap shot, while it has become socialy acceptable, is tasteless

Fair enough. The end of the world tends to be something that comes up every now and then. The last time was around 2000, and it was more religious in nature.

Whether that's a cheap shot is up to you. I think anyone that anticipated the end of days, and there were some people, are worth having a laugh at.

The end of the world comes up regularly on the science channel. The sun is going to expand way bigger than it is and it will consume all the rocky inner planets. That's one scientific apocalypse story. Another is we're going to be wiped out by a comet or asteroid, just like the dinosaurs were. Or we're going to globally warm ourselves to extinction.

My my. The prophecies abound.

BTW the Maya Calendar was deeply rooted in their religion.

Ha, ok now who's the one shoehorning in this thread?

Global warming. You're going to burn in hell. The parallel is eerie.

Latest I have heard is some exoplanets have survived inside their red giant. Sure life probably died, but the rocks didn't turn to molten lava.

It's funny.... the people studying the Mayans say that there is actually more to the calendar than initially thought. Like a year ago, they found more, but it was partially covered by a wall and/or some paint, or some shit like that. They've been trying to get the word out to help avoid the "freak out" that is likely to come, but to no avail.

To each his own, I guess.

Dude, the last time it came up was last year by Christian leader Harold Camper: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_end_times_prediction.

as long as i'm going on a giant ark with amanda peet it won't bother me

Depends on what angle you sit on. There are many in the empirical field that also believes the world is going to end. Solar flares or economic collapse if I remember correctly.

Dude, zombies. /thread

right, or plague, volcano eruptions, locusts, and water shortages, none of which have anything to do with god, right?

and the religious would just herald solar flares as some interpreted form of "fire raining down from heaven"

no matter how the world ends it will have religious connotations to billions of people, unless we have stopped believing religion by then

I honestly don't even know what I should get for protection if I decide to go that route. Do I get a handgun, a shotgun, or a rifle? It would not be for hunting or for offense, just for defense in case of emergency.
