OK, so his legal name is "Amaré". With the accent.

Why, though, does it have that accent?

Does he pronounce his name "ah-mah-RAY"?

Can I legally change my name to include a special character, too?

cracka azz cracka with your racist posts!

Why "LaMarcus"? Was his mom hoping for a girl? Why not "ElMarcus" or "LeMarcus"?

I wonder if I can legally change my first initial to always be in red.

I knew a girl who was named ;Jamie. With the semi-colon in front of the J. It was on her driver's license and birth certificate.

LaMarcus is Spanish for "The Marcus". I hear you on the girl thing, though.

Maybe she just wanted him to be LaMarcus.

Cracka alert.......... Cracka alert!

If you do, the "O" should probably be purple. You know, so it matches the avatar.

Yeah, but La is the feminine adjective, El is the masculine one. I really don't think that is a factor in non-Spanish-speaking people in naming their kids though...

Because we have to be able to tell the difference between him and Marcus Camby. We have Marcus. And then we have LaMarcus!:ohno:

Maybe it was just to keep teachers from calling him a female horse?

I'm guessing too many people made the 'e' silent when he was growing up. I'm not really sure UH-MAR-EE is much better than UH-MAR though.

It's all just silliness, and looks even more ridiculous when media outlets put the ' before the e to simulate an e with an accent.

Option One (Amare without an accent):

Teacher: ahMAYR...
Amare: It's ahMAHree, teacher.
Teacher: Oh, OK.
Option Two (Amaré with an accent):

Teacher: AhmahRAY...
Amaré: It's ahMAHree, teacher.
Teacher: Oh, OK.
Option Three:

Teacher: Steve...
Steve: Yes?

I realize the difference between "el" and "la". I was joking.

I'm guessing his parents liked the name LaMarcus, so they named him LaMarcus.

Now, can somebody explain to me why Antawn Jamison's first name is pronounced the same as Antoine?

I'm surprised nobody has brought up Dwyane Wade yet... I feel sorry for him every time I see the name.

That one always bugged me. Especially because "An-tawn" is just a better-sounding name than "An-twon".

Perhaps his parents misspelled "Amore"?

Ed, I think you are miss that fact that his name is pronounced AhMar-E, it's not pronounced Ah-mah-ree. The ' seperates the e from the rest of the name, giving it the correct pronunciation. Amar ' e.

There is a story that when he was born the hospital spelled it wrong on the birth certificate and they never got it fixed.

I can't tell if you're serious or not. :)
