You'd think the gas station attendant was threatening them with a gun or something the way i see them describe the experience :tsktsk:

Well, i just have to look at the paint around the gas lid - beyond scraped, scratched, chipped.

Because they think they're being scammed and by having someone pump their gas for them they are paying more than if you were to allow them to pump their own gas.

I get to pump my own gas when I ride.

Sitting there waiting in front of a non busy pump will do that after awhile.

Did you ever notice a six pump station with one gas attendant and wonder WTF?

Sounds like you're ready for an electric car.

I thought your dad just lets you sit on his lap and steer.

No but I did install a 250 gallon tank by my shop.

Hey Nate, what's up with motorcyclists being huge dicks this week? Twice I saw a motorcyclist going 20-30 mph faster than traffic on I-5 while swerving in and out of traffic. I thought one was going to hit my bumper this morning. I thought the dude was on a suicide mission.

Has never happened to any of my cars in over 40 years of driving.

Maybe you have out-of-state plates and act like a dick to the attendant? :dunno:

Pumping my own gas when traveling on vacation, and the smell of it following me throughout the day, is a reminder of just how silly people can behave when they are properly programmed by big business.

Except that has never been true.

I forget, is this one of those conservative/liberal issues that I have to swear to defend to the death? If so, would someone please post which side is for which position. Does it differ if my car has it's fill tube on the left or right side?

Liberals want someone to do all the work for them, conservatives want less interference at the pump.

The weather got nice for a couple days and all the riders think it's their last chance to ride before Spring, so all the morons are out riding like maniacs.

My buddy in high school mike worked at a gas station, filled an old rear tank cars TRUNK with around 20 gallons of gas ( the trunk lock was punched out and just looked like a hole) on his first day, about an hour in. Fired on the spot

Re: Why do out of staters get so pissed off about not being able to pump their own ga

Answer: it takes longer

Re: Why do out of staters get so pissed off about not being able to pump their own ga

I have no idea what the big deal is. I pump my own gas here in Texas, and of course I grew up and lived most of my adult life in Oregon. I have literally no clue why people would get upset. Yes it takes a tad longer, and it is more expensive....at least I think it is? I'd much rather relax and have someone do it for me than get out and have to do it myself.

Californian here. Like other people have said, I associate it with higher costs and feel the need to tip. But its kind of like tipping a bar tender for pouring me a beer; I would pour it myself if I was allowed, and I would pour it better than the bar tender does. Similar to the bartender analogy, you've gotta wait longer (unecessarily), and in CA you're programmed to get in and GTFO of people's way. If you're in your car, you've probably got somewhere to be, no reason to be waiting for no fucking reason. Lastly I don't usually fill my tank all the way when I get gas and I usually freeball it as far as determining how much to put in.

At least we can pump gas without getting it all over ourselves. Never heard of anyone smelling like gas otherwise.

I have never tipped.

Re: Why do out of staters get so pissed off about not being able to pump their own ga

I have never tipped.

I tip about half the time. Depends on the person pumping the gas. They learn who you are and wash your windshield. I like that.

Re: Why do out of staters get so pissed off about not being able to pump their own ga

You're supposed to tip?

Re: Why do out of staters get so pissed off about not being able to pump their own ga

I have never ever tipped, nor have I ever seen anyone tip. I sometimes tip a buck at the touch-less car wash by my house because they towel-dry my car.

And because they're ugly teens with a need for acne wash for their pimply faces, so I'd like to think I help out so they can score some poon (though I know the money goes elsewhere, like giving change to bums).

Nice try, but we still refuse to tip the moderators.

Re: Why do out of staters get so pissed off about not being able to pump their own ga

I tip if they wash my windshield, and I happen to have a single on me.

Re: Why do out of staters get so pissed off about not being able to pump their own ga

I lived in Vegas for a few years and when I first got back to Oregon I hated it... I think for me personally it was a time issue, it annoyed me to have to wait for the attendant when there pumping multiple other cars at the same time.... but I got used to it fairly quickly... sometimes i wish I could pump my own gas still but it doesnt really bother me much.

Re: Why do out of staters get so pissed off about not being able to pump their own ga

The bartender analogy is a good one, hadn't thought of that.

For me, it's a matter of just not being used to it, and not needing/wanting that "convenience". Same with baggers at the grocery stores on base: I still tip them (b/c I know they only work for tips), but it's easier/faster for me to take my own cart out to the parking lot and load it up. I don't want a retiree/widow pushing all my groceries when I can do it myself easier/faster/better.

Now at some places here in FL you don't have the locks on the handles, so that you can set the pump and go buy food/wash the windshield/bathroom/whatever while it pumps, and that's kind of a pain. But the places I've been to in OR, the attendant doesn't have to stand there the whole time anyway, just sets up the nozzle and goes back to wherever it's warm/dry. If I don't have to wait, no big deal...but waiting (and/or paying more) isn't worth it, to me. Maybe to an elderly person or a mom taking care of 3 kids in the backseat or whatever. :dunno:

Not that it makes me "pissed off", but it's not a convenience.
