This doesn’t answer the question. What is exactly insulting? We all have different definitions of it. What if mar found the dviss flag rant personally insulting? I don’t think it was. I thought it was crazy but I don’t think it was. However I think mar feels differently. So then what? Where do we go from there? That’s a valid question.

And they wonder why people take breaks or only come around here for basketball talk. The OT section is poorly supervised and is filled with bias that they just don’t seem to see yet we just saw it last night. I’m done fighting this battle though. Only one of the mods actually listen to me and will communicate.

It is a valid question. The mere fact that there are so many different viewpoints as to what constitutes an insult makes it difficult in the first place. I laid out the simplistic version of a personal insult, which is simple. Chris craig then asked me about implied insults, which is a huge grey area. I tried to define my way of viewing it, and its going to differ from others.

If we want, we can come up with community guidelines... Make it then hard and fast rules about what can and cant be said. I look at the history of posters, because if i just look at words themselves then people feel their freedom of speech is being violated. We have to deal with that constantly. The only fair way in my eyes to do it is to take history into account.

If we straight take words as the only source (generalizations and personal) this ot thread would cease to exist. We need your help to show us when you feel personally insulted by an implied insult.

I think i can speak for the rest of the mod team in saying we are not in any hierarchy here.. Come to us in a civalized manner, keeping emotions in check, and i (we) will look into it.

Biting the hand that feeds you doesnt help when we just want to make sure youre fed.

Im trying to lay it out clear here that we dont have all the answers in the grey area. They are grey for a reason.

Would be easier to just ban barfo. I don't have an explanation for that, it's just a feeling.

Well then it would seem a few mods as well as the admin don’t actually care. I have mentioned this stuff in the past privately to these people and either got nothing back or answer that made no sense. When I post my opinion in the OT, it’s not like I don’t expect a reply disagreeing but at the same time I don’t expect replies with guys like barfo baiting me and just being rude to be rude without offering any actual dialogue at all or somebody like dviss who gets emotional and implies that I’m a racist or people on the forum who have a certain view are racist. I just don’t get how that’s allowed. You can’t tell somebody they are racist on the forum as I once did and got banned for yet you can imply somebody is a racist and make it obvious but that’s okay. It absolutely makes zero sense to me.

And I apologize for going off course on the Roseanne post and making it about sly and I. Honestly I was just fed up and I don’t appreciate him lying about what went down and how it went down when it comes to my banning months ago. That’s what tends to happen though when there is no communication. But I have explained to you the personal insult rule, just like I have explained to you why you were banned. You choose not to accept those explanations.

I try to keep the personal insult rule very simple, if I see a post with something like "you are a _______" and that is insulting then that is a personal insult. If someone says, "I wipe my ass with the flag" while you may find that post insulting that is not a personal insult. It would be impossible to remove everything that is insulting to everyone. Then anyone could claim an opinion is personally insulting to them and demand to have it removed. I understand you disagree with this and I'm sorry for that.

I'm not asking you to agree, just to understand. It is best to keep the personal insult rule as simple as possible. Keeping it simple keeps everyone on the same page.

I get the feeling that you're trying to make those personal between us. I'll say it again, I like you. I may not agree with all of your opinions on things but then again I don't think there is a person in the forum that I agree with everything on. Not agreeing with you doesn't mean I hate you or want you gone.

Also if I see personal insults, it doesn't matter who they are from, I edit or delete them. I don't play favorites. I have edited multiple posts by Dviss. I have edited posts by Riverman. I have even edited posts by Denny.

Again, I am not lying about how things went down when I banned you.

You were asked multiple times by multiple staff members to stop with the personal insults. You were not the only one asked to stop. Dviss and Nate both stopped. You did not. I then told you that you needed to stop. You continued and so I put an end to it.

Also I’m not trying to make things personal. I just wish you communicated better. I would be fine if things didn’t seem so one sided here but all that pulled out the ban situation and what happened. I put the two together because it makes the most sense.

I personally dont play favorites, and i can say the same for others. We all get offended by different things... Like sly said its hard to police that in any situation where there is a group.

There have been things said here that i 100% disagree with, ive also had implications about a generalization towards me on here... As well as others have. If you want use to police all the slights and implications, we can do pur best.

I get your passion and fighting for what you believe. But there also needs to be a lens of reality about how to go about it (and also the consequences of having a hyper-modded forum).

Theres not going to be an answer that will satisfy you, cipp. Which sucks and i get it because it baffles me that thhere isnt an answer to some things that seem so simple. Ill just leave that at that.
