Why does Stotts refuse to coach and stress defense?

It's been frustrating for me. But I think he does stress it and wants to see it. He's pretty passionate and animated on the sideline not to be. But he and his staff may only have some in the way of answers on that end.

Stotts is an offensive coach and has done an amazing job compared to the days of Nate. Now hopefully they can improve the D or bring in a Defensive Assistant that can ramp up their effectiveness.

Blazers now 6-5 (?) against teams over .500. Schedule gets tougher soon.

Queue all the negative nancy threads after a 3-1 road trip where we played 3 playoff teams in 5 nights, while destroying the non-playoff team

3 playoff teams? Cleveland and Minnesota aren't playoff teams. Detroit probably is.

Over .500? Yet Minny is not. They ARE 500. And started below, so I don't know.

Right... .500 and over. Wins against the Nuggets, Spurs, Warriors, Rockets, Suns, OKC and Pacers. Losses to Suns (x2), Rockets, Mavs and Wolves. So 7-5 against .500 and above. 15-0 against below .500 teams....killing it there. They get the Clips and Heat at home, then at OKC and in January @ Spurs, Mavs, Thunder and Rockets before a game @ Warriors.

If they come close to keeping up this pace after that swing, they are seriously legit. It will be their first stretch of games against over .500 teams.

I agree with Detroit... but, I dunno... if Cleveland can figure out a way to get a win on the road and get a better player SF than Gee, I think they can make noise. It is the East, after all.

Well, I guess then we didn't tarnish our under .500 record, even though they started out below it. lol.

How someone can only watch one quarter of a game and give up on a team is amazing to me.

Well it's not amazing to me. You could tell in the first 5 minutes they had no interest in playing in this game. The defensive effort was straight up embarrassing. Why would I want to watch 4 quarters of that crap? I have better things to do then watch a team be content with a 3-1 road trip and not play with effort. I see they were down by more then 30 at halftime to the T-Wolves!? Looks like I made the obvious correct decision.

One game OIG, but I do share some of your concerns. More than likely this will be Achilles heal for this team for the rest of the season. Still think it's ok to be proud of the progression they have made and what this coach has made himself

Where have you been recently? You know, when we've been winning.

Playing good defense or not. Watching this team on any given night is not crap. You are wrong. This is the most exciting team in the league to watch. Obviously our defense is not our strong point, but to say you have better things to do than to watch a team that is playing every game like a playoff game in december, is not a true fan of good basketball but is someone who is trying to get a rise from passionate fans of that team. You sir are a troll.

yawn, exactly. If a team pushes the pace of the game shooting earlier in the clock (like Stotts has them doing), then there will be more possessions in the game for both teams. More possessions equals more points even against a great defensive team.

While most people are capable of grasping simple cause and effect concepts, clearly this is a unique individual

No, you sir are just a blind homer. Yes, watching this team tonight play defense was crap. Go read the Oregonian, it seems like Wes Matthews and Aldridge seem to agree with me. Take off your rose colored glasses, this team needs to address there major flaws on defense.

None of that excuses the layup drill I witnessed in the first half. I have never seen anything like that in an NBA game. The T Wolves literally got an uncontested layup almost every time down the floor. That was just plain old effort, it had nothing to do with possessions.

Blah blah blah 120 points tonight, 116 yesterday, 109 game before that, ALL VS LOSING TEAMS. There defense is terrible and will prevent them from winning any playoff games. Layup drill all night, almost every night. Fix it now or suffer in April.

Don't watch.

The thing was, is you didn't watch the team tonight. So you can't accurately say that, since you really only watched one quarter, that's not really watching them. So, if I guess that would make you a blind pessimist?

This is Homersville USA, even the players are echoing exactly what I'm saying in the Oregonian tonight. I guess this is the Soccer Mom fan base, WOW.

69 first half points to the wolves. What could I of possibly of missed?

After giving up 50 some-odd points in the paint in the first half, Portland clamped down and only allowed about 15 in the second half. Gotta look at the positives.

Defense is definitely the key for us moving forward. The season is young.

Don't do that. He only watches 5 minutes and then bases it all off of that. That MUST be how it ALL happened. Not 15 points in the paint in the 2nd half. :MARIS61:

It was a lot more then just tonight smart ass. It was this whole road trip.

And I agree with you that our defense needs a little work. That is apparent captain obvious. But to say this teams effort is crap and that you have better things to do than watch. Don't watch, and save the rest of us from your moot point of this team puts fourth any effort, cuz clearly at 22-5 there is minimal effort put out on a nightly basis.
