Why does Stotts refuse to coach and stress defense?

And I agree with you that our defense needs a little work. That is apparent captain obvious. But to say this teams effort is crap and that you have better things to do than watch. Don't watch, and save the rest of us from your moot point of this team puts fourth any effort, cuz clearly at 22-5 there is minimal effort put out on a nightly basis.

You're the master of taking things I said out of context. First of all, are defense needs more then "a little work" captain obvious. And I said this teams effort was "crap" IN THE FIRST HALF WHEN I WAS WATCHING. Well it was! That does not mean that there effort is crap all the time, it means it was TONIGHT, which it was. What have I said that's not true? You just can't stand your team getting called out at all, even if it's the truth. My god in your world saying the Blazers effort was crap tonight means that I'm saying there effort in there first 27 games has been crap, are you really this dense? Maybe you just see things how you want to see them in your own perfect little blazer soccer mom world, instead of reading what I actually wrote, you twisted it into something that it wasn't and then use the lazy argument of anyone calling a spade a spade and not bowing down to everything the Blazers are doing as a troll. WEAK SAUCE.

120 points to the TWolves?!?!? 116 to the Cavs? The Blazers can win all the games they want this season it wont matter come playoff time. I turned off the Wolves game in the first quarter because I was getting so mad I thought I was gonna punch something. Layup after layup after layup. It was the most disgusting defense I have ever seen an NBA team play. I have never seen anything like that. No way this team even wins a playoff game at this rate. They will get swept. Stotts better find and hire a coach who actually can teach this team to play NBA defense because they're screwed at this rate.

The OP of your post makes it sure seem like they've played like shit all season long.

I've known you from the days in O-live, so I know you would overreact if we lost a pre-season game. Just your nature.

How's the sky in your neighborhood? Is there any left?

"Are" defense?

I stopped reading after the second sentence. Your trolling is:

WEAK.

SAUCE.

Great comeback! Sorry for using the word "are". Man, talk about trolling! You got nothing to say so you're just going to try and pick a fight with me by nitpicking some B.S. Pretty pathetic. IGNORE BUTTON. WEAK.

Don't you still owe SlyPokerDog tickets, 2 years later? Be a man and pay up. Until then get the fuck outta here. Cheers!

If you hold the other team to less points than your offense scores, you've defended well enough.

If liking my team very much makes me a homer. Then I am a homer. We need to work on our defense, yes. But going 3-4 on a 4-5 games/nights trip is not cause for me and any other logical thinking fan (if you are even a fan of this team, or your sole purpose here is just to troll) to throw a screaming fit like a little girl, all because our guys may have been fatigued and didn't give they're 100% on the defensive end of the ball. It happens to all teams in the NBA. So pardon me if I don't start a thread screaming the sky is falling and throwing my favorite team under the bus all over a little lack of effort on the defensive end in the 4th gAme in 5 nights. If you would have watched the entire game, you would have seen us cut a 32 pt defecit down to 10. That took defense. Thank you.

Blah blah blah 120 points tonight, 116 yesterday, 109 game before that, ALL VS LOSING TEAMS. There defense is terrible and will prevent them from winning any playoff games. Layup drill all night, almost every night. Fix it now or suffer in April.

I'd bet you on that.....but we all know that you don't pay your debts, so never mind.

Go Blazers

Judging from the tenor of most of the posts in this thread the Blazers defense must be just fine?

I don't think anyone thinks the Blazer defense is fine, but it's good enough to win 80% of the games so far. Since this team is newly assembled, and our bench isn't close to complete, I'd say we've been doin okay so far. Wouldn't you agree?

I would say that unless you see significant improvement in team defense, between now and April, it won't add up to a fart in the wind in the playoffs.

On the one hand they're winning games, they're fun to watch and they're better than I thought they'd be, but there are some pretty glaring deficiencies that probably won't get corrected just through familiarity and time. Some (or maybe a lot?) of this is a personnel problem and possibly a coaching problem.

Not a good start rook. Ya, I said it.

Funny that little league all star has the same rep as you do after 2000 posts.

To the OP Stotts is an offensive guy, he came up with a smart defensive system to help cover the teams poor team defense and it has worked for the most part. No threes reduce the free throws by giving up open mid range jumpers and score has been successful so far. Teams do adapt so if things start to change it will be important to see how Stotts reacts but right now chalk last night up to tired bodies and a lack of effort of that side of the ball.

It's hard to be upset with our record, but it's foolish to just suggest that 22-5, or 3-1, means that there aren't legitimate concerns about the team. Yeah, according to our W/L record on this road trip we performed quite well. But when you look beyond the surface and see that two of those three wins came on buzzer-beaters against average teams, and the other win came against the team least suited to defend our 3-point barrage, then that 3-1 doesn't look quite as rosy.

The defense isn't good, at all. We give up the 3rd most points within 5' of the hoop, and the most points within 5-9' of the hoop. That's bad, no matter what way you slice it. Meanwhile, on the offensive end, we're bottom 10 in FGM from both of those distances. (Interestingly, IND - the only good team below us - ranks as the 3rd worst in FGM <5'.) And then on the flip-side, we score more than anyone in the 15-19' range - the exact shot that our defense is suppose to give up.

So yeah, 22-5 is nice. But there are some legitimate concerns about this team. Luckily there's a lot of room for improvement, and a lot of time to improve. Hopefully we will.

I don't think Detroit is an average team, IMO. But I see what you're saying blue.

You can come up with "legitimate concerns" on every team in the NBA.

Absolutely....and every team is trying to address those concerns. As fans, I thought forums were to express ideas, discuss those concerns, banter about possible solutions etc. I remember having serious concerns about how Nate ran his offense and at times was vilified because I dared question 'one of the best coaches in the league'. To each their own but you see what someone with a different approach can do. Every coach has their strengths. Wherever Tom Thibodeau goes, that team is very likely to be better defensively. That is just a different approach in scheme and strategy that he is very good at. So to suggest the Blazers have defensive issues at the rim where the easiest shots in the game take place is not anarchy, make someone a troll or not a Blazer fan. It seems a fairly realistic observation and one I'm sure most fans hope improves.

Yeah, I didn't feel like looking at the records, etc, and just gave DET/CLE the benefit of the doubt.
Upon second read, I think you might be saying that DET is better than average? That may be. Again - don't feel like looking at their schedule, but I suspect that if they are >average then it's largely because they play in the grossly inferior Eastern Conf.
