Nash/Allen/Crash/Aldridge/Joel Definitely contends this year, probably only this year but I think we could make a run and steal a title. Thoughts?

As insanely crazy as it seems, I think it's worth a shot. You really wouldn't need hca to win the west. And that team could easily win on the road. I worry that we have a 1-3 year window. Then we would have to salvage and rebuild shortly after.

What pieces are you talking about?

We'd have to give up EWill and Batum to get both of those guys but I'd rather do that and have a chance of winning the title now over just being mediocre for the next 10 years as currently constructed.

because it's 2012, and not 2002

and I think this deal would actually have us the opportunity to pry their 2nd rounder or use a third team and get a mid first.

In 2012, Nash is leading the league in assists and Ray Allen is shooting 49% from the three point line.

and both of their teams suck crap.

Add them together with Aldridge, Crash, and Joel and our team would not suck crap. An you imagine having a backcourt that can shoot like that?

Even if that teams gets out of the West (highly unlikely). There is NO way they "steal" a title from Miami (or Chicago). You think our perimeter defense is bad now. wait until you see how teams light us up with an AARP elligible starting backcourt of Nash and Ray Allen. Seriously, who on that team guards Wade or Rose? Oh, and forget getting out of the West. OKC with Westbrook and Harden would absolutely KILL that team.

If you're going to concoct fantasy trades that will never happen, at least try to come up with something that gives us a chance to win a title. Come on, step it up and get us Dwight Howard and Deron Williams, while keeping Aldridge, Batum and Wallace. It'd take Howard/Aldridge/Wallace/Batum/Williams over your Joel/Aldridge/Wallace/Allen/Nash wet dream any time.

Can you imagine a backcourt that can't guard ANYONE?

Half the game is defense, and being able to get defensive stops with the game on the line in the playoffs is absolutely critical to post season success. A starting backcourt of Allen and Nash would EASILY be the worst defensive backcourt in the playoffs. And, since you gave away Batum, you can't even go with offensive/defensive substitutions at the end of the game. No way would they make the finals. Depending on the match up, they'd be lucky to get out of the first round.

I actually kinda like the thinking. There's no point going after Nash unless you surround him with shooters, otherwise you just have the current Phoenix team... Batum might be good enough to compliment him at this point, but we'd probably have to give up Batum to be in the running for Nash... Nash and Allen would be lethal on the perimeter, and boy would that open things up for Aldridge inside. Yeah, perimeter defense would be horrific, but: a) it already is, and b) we'd be trading a lot of 3's for 2's, so it may not be that bad.

Exactly. And Ray Allen is an underrated defender.

No it doesn't. Same results until we change the head coach.

I disagree. Two of the best shooters in the league and the best passer in the league makes us better but let's get a new coach too anyway. Fire Nate and get Paul Westphal. He's a nice guy, great offensive coach, and has been to the Finals more recently than Rick Adelman.

You guys need to stop. The team is bad. We need to rebuild. Ray Allen and Steve Nash are not turning around this team.

They would solve a lot of problems in the short term. We would be a contender. They would make Aldridge so much better.

I don't want to wait 10 years for us to contend again. Thats 20 years without contending. Go for it now.

I just can't wait for the moment we get Nash. So many of you guys will understand why he is soooooo important for our success. Just his piece; especially if we can somehow get him without trading E Will or Batum would make this team turn around sooooo fast.

I think we're gonna get him and yes, it will be great to see him prove the naysayers wrong.

We wouldn't be a contender. We'd be a playoff team.... maybe. That's not worth trading away assets.

Such a myopic way to build a team. We'd be in the same position we are in now in two years.

The reason we don't get ANYBODY is PA won't pay.

It's that simple.

the naysayers just don't want to move batum for him.

Bingo! I'd love to have Nash, if only for half a season, just to see how much better a real PG would make Aldridge and Batum (especially). The problem is, unless we also get rid of Nate at the same time, we may not know. And I DEFINITELY would not give up 23 year old Nic Batum for 38 year old Steve Nash.

Wow. So this is what desperation "sounds" like? Fuck, it's been awhile, I'd kind of forgotten.

Nash makes Gortat look like a borderline all-star. He's also made players like Jared Dudley and Channing Frye relevant. All those guys are assisted on over 80% of their jumpers.

I think Nash could make Wes look really good as well on cuts to the basket.

Fuck this team needs a PG badly.
