Why It’s Time Black People Simply Disengage With White People In Discussing Race

Seems like if he could tap back into what he used to show, he'd fit well with Chip's system.

The problem is mental. The Niners tried to make him into something he's not, and it destroyed his confidence. I doubt he'll ever get it back.

Seems like this ought to get posted somewhere, so I'll just drop it in here and run:

So when Kap was simply helping a friend move out of his dorm room and the police were called and guns were drawn out.... for no reason... He can't protest since he's rich now? It's a catch 22. When poor people protest inequity we are called bitter but when we get rich the same protester is called a hypocritical....

Something tells me they just don't want to talk about inequity.

White people to the BLM movement: Protest peacefully!

*Black man sits silently to protest the national anthem.*

White people: No not like that...

Jesus fucking Christ people....

There I was, the black grandson of a slave, the son of a black sharecropper, part of a historic occasion, a symbolic hero to my people. The air was sparkling. The sunlight was warm. The band struck up the national anthem. The flag billowed in the wind. It should have been a glorious moment for me as the stirring words of the national anthem poured from the stands. Perhaps, it was, but then again, perhaps, the anthem could be called the theme song for a drama called The Noble Experiment. Today, as I look back on that opening game of my first world series, I must tell you that it was Mr. Rickey’s drama and that I was only a principal actor. As I write this twenty years later, I cannot stand and sing the anthem. I cannot salute the flag; I know that I am a black man in a white world. In 1972, in 1947, at my birth in 1919, I know that I never had it made.

Lastly, I'll probably take a look at the Ali thread to see how many of you praised him. Kap is doing MUCH less than he did but along the same line.

Now please lock this damn thread. It's pretty worthless. No perspective has been gained. No minds and hearts have been won. Godspeed on your journeys to actually give a shit.

The problem I have with what you're saying is that you presume that the only perspective that needs to be gained is by white people. You never seem to question whether the core underpinnings of BLM, that cops are disproportionately shooting black people in some sort of systemic racist fashion is representative of reality. A recent study by a Harvard professor who, by the way, is black and expected his research to support that position, found that it was not borne out by the data. Cops tend to get more physical with blacks, but don't shoot them disproportionately.

Actually dviss...perspective is often gained without acknowledgement...you'd be surprised how many minds or hearts are won even if they don't admit it. Again, these conversations are important no matter how defensive the reaction...more often than not, folks don't see themselves without a mirror.

This is what BLM is asking for. This is their website.

http://www.joincampaignzero.org/#vision

Under the Problem section of their website they say too many people are shot each year by police, they don't say black people.

http://www.joincampaignzero.org/problem/

The website may say that, but that certainly hasn't been the point of all of the demonstrations around the country. If it were, the name might be something more relating to a generic reduction of police shootings instead of BLM.

every demographic has level headed people and whack job idiots....I try not to confuse the organizations with the idiots that have their posters on the wall or the PTSD vets coming home with bloodlust and anger

I forget which comedian I saw do this bit but it struck home....don't stand on the street with a sign protesting banks...have all these people go to the banks everyday and apply for loans....over and over...you make them work that hard you're accomplishing something....you stand on the street you just annoy people driving by. I think it was Bill Burr

The number of people killed by police in the US last year was 1,140. 853 of those people were armed and the rest weren't. In a country of 320 million people, that doesn't seem like an unreasonable number. Sure, we'd all like it to be less, but given the amount of crime and violence out there, this doesn't seem to bear out the softer BLM issue either.

Even with that stat...one should subtract the amount of policemen who died over the same period of time doing their job

Black Lives Matter (BLM) is an international[1]activist movement, originating in the African-American community, that campaigns against violence and systemic racism toward black people. BLM regularly organizes protests around the deaths of black people in killings by law enforcement officers, and broader issues of racial profiling, police brutality, andracial inequality in the United States criminal justice system.

and so they should...it's their right just like farmers protesting middle eastern investors from buying up the heartland and putting the small farmer out of biz...I love America for this freedom...in N Korea...they just shoot you if you argue

From your own link -

These lists are incomplete. Although Congress instructed the Attorney General in 1994 to compile and publish annual statistics on police use of excessive force, this was never carried out, and the FBI does not collect these data either.[1] The annual average number of justifiable homicides alone was previously estimated to be near 400.

It's always hilarious to me when people use that Rightwashed website as a source of info.

Swell. That's really helpful.

You forget this thread was about my choice to disengage with the people who say things like statistically it's not that big of a problem... I'm done trying to get y'all to care. Now Godspeed I'm again done with this thread.

done like Kingspeed when he quit for 4 hours....I know you can break his record...your truth is your truth...if they don't get it, they don't get it

Finally! An idea whose time is way overdue! No matter how good our intentions may be, no matter how many discussions we have to white'splain or black'splain, black people aren't going to "get" the white experience and white people aren't going to "get" the black experience, good, bad or indifferent from both sides. I can't be black and DViss can't be white. We're wasting time, words and (in many instances) sincere good will trying to share thoughts and feelings that can't truly be shared. Time to get on with our individual lives and hope that communal sanity....or racial equality by osmosis....will eventually prevail. Now maybe we can use this site for TrailBlazer basketball as it was (I assume) originally intended. We can always find other venues elsewhere for saving the world......though simple respect and courtesy on this site is a better start than nothing.....

You don't get it.

Even with that stat...one should subtract the amount of policemen who died over the same period of time doing their job

Each police death subtracts a civilian death? Really? If your best friend is killed by a cop, does it make you feel better if a cop is killed later that week?
