Anyone else looking forward to the unrelated posts coming up over the next few days as someone comes up with ways to avoid resolving this subject ever?

Florida schools are not allowed to teach about slavery, racism, civil rights movement, Nazi Holocaust. But a teacher made a pro confederate propaganda video that was shown to the entire school.

It's OK to make those people uncomfortable.

Glad you made it through your heart attack. I don't wish that on anyone.

The facts are....

  • You promised Lanny a steak but never had one with him when you came to town, knowing his days were short. You never sent him one, saying sorry man I didn't get to go have a steak with you, but here
  • This hurt Lanny. He thought he did something wrong and you were upset with him. He died thinking this. Though, knowing Lanny he wouldn't want you to feel guilty about it
  • Sly went through all Lanny's emails and message following his death. The last message/email from you they found was from 2021
  • You claim you emailed/messaged him just prior to his death, and also went on hiatus just before he died. I rechecked...you last asked about him in August, three months before he died. You talked directly to him in March and April last year via posts about his health. You mentioned him or tagged him after August, but you didn't ask how he was. The only hiatuses I saw was just after Lanny died (after you had your heart attack) and from DEC to JAN right after as Sly pointed out.
  • You posted about being against gays the day after your heart attack and then had your first hiatus.
  • You had a steak in Lanny's honor, I think around that time.
People here, friends of Lanny are upset that he died thinking you were mad at him or that he did something wrong. You could have said, you feel bad, you should have gotten that steak for Lanny, you should have contacted him before he passed. You didn't say any of those things. You could have been contrite. Instead you choose to be defensive.

Chris,

I appreciate you taking the time and effort to lay out some of these aspects concerning Lanny. I did feel bad about not being able to have that steak dinner with him while out there last Summer. It was a family wedding, and I was getting pulled in so many directions, I just couldn't make it happen. I sent him that engineer t-shirt as kind of a down payment on that wager, and was happy that he proudly wore it on many occasions. That said, I had no idea Lanny was so upset. I never read any of his remarks. Not certain which thread they were in. I never emailed him, but I saw that I had a few posts to him prior to his death and my heart attack. I also made many posts to him during his illness. Not certain how far back those go, but I remember relating that I cared. My hiatus may have been spotty, but it was there. When getting on S2, it would take forever to pull up this site, read posts, make posts, and the like. I became very frustrated with the whole technical thing and actually reached out to @PtldPlatypus complaining about such. I think he told me he wasn't aware of that particular issue and to tell sly about it. Not sure if I did. Anyway, all that, then my heart attack.

I do know how many feel about me in here, and that's OK. If I get defensive, it's simply because of how I'm being addressed. It doesn't take rocket science to realize that. I see you as being much more objective and reasonable, and I appreciate that. Again, thank you for your efforts. I have my views on certain matters, and those won't change. BTW, I never, ever said I'm against gays as a whole. Just gay marriage.

I really wish I could've had the chance to talk to Lanny had I known his feelings about being hurt, etc. That saddens me. It really does.

Red States are getting redder and Blue States are getting blue'er

Marriage is a contract between two people. States have a boilerplate contract to help those without legal representation.

Why does anyone feel it's appropriate to share an opinion regarding someone else's personal business?

OK, sure. They could be sister and brother, sister and sister, brother and brother....or the like.
Incest is completely different. And irrelevant to a contract, quite frankly.

There is no risk of bringing deformed babies into the world in a gay marriage.

If there is no risk of harming society, who they sign contracts with is nobody else's business.

See, not so hard to be attritional. Probably would have saved you some grief to have done that from the beginning. Lanny didn't write about it here, he only shared those sentiments with those close to him. He did the wear the shirt hoping you'd see it and reach out. Lanny I guess saw something in you others here don't. He liked you, and I do remember him asking everyone to take that into account.

So, you didn't email him then.

Yeah, you came to Sly and me about the slow loading stuff. Couldn't figure that out. Not sure why that's happening.

You related that you cared earlier in the year before he died. But, months went by before he died where you didn't check in, knowing his end was near.

Again, glad you survived your heart attack. Scary shit.

Being against "gay marriage" is being against gay people as a whole, because that is taking away their rights and it's being used to further create laws to try and stop them from existing, which is hateful and stupid, because it won't work. We will keep fighting against the attempts to set things backwards and win. Progress can't be stopped, only impeded.

I get your views won't change. That's the issue many have with you here. You don't see how your views are affecting good people. You don't see how dangerous they are to people's lives. As we have seen it's not just marriage, it's removing them from books, from public discourse. That's not ok. It never will be. If you understand that, you'll understand why you are being addressed the way you are.

OK, sure. They could be sister and brother, sister and sister, brother and brother....or the like.

Cousins anyway...in Arkansas and a few other states...even Tennessee. So, Gay people can't marry in Tennessee, but cousins can.

There is no such thing as "gay marriage". As Ellen DeGeneris said, she is not "gay married", she is married.

A federal judge in Florida denied a 17 year old's request for abortion because her grades weren't good. Caring for a child would no doubt improve her schoolwork. He was voted out of office. A three judge panel later overturned the decision on a 2-1 vote.

That judge and the one dissenter are now on DeSantis' list for state Supreme Court. Having proven their devotion to making women live in Gilead. Excuse me. Incubators.

I saw the name Rhonda Santis on a comment thread from somewhere (I think an article), and I thought that would be the perfect nickname for Trump to use against Ron, as it implies he's one of them evil doer drag queens.

Yeah but if gays can marry, who’s to say people won’t be marrying goats

I can’t believe we are back in 2004 with this shit

They want us to go back to the 1950's where you could call black people the N word with no repercussions, and hang em, and call someone a f***** without anyone disagreeing with you, etc.

They're on the losing side of history, they just don't know it.

There are always two sides. At any rate, this all started when I said Lanny would be proud of DeSantis drinking a Guinness. Huge mistake there.

You brought up Lanny, probably not the best idea. Lanny might like Guinness, but he wouldn't be proud of DeSantis.

On some things there are not two sides.
Remember the school district who actually said teach both sides of the Nazi Holocaust? There aren't two sides.

Used to be the New York Times, when they covered a lynching, would seek comment from Ku Klux Klan on why it was necessary. About a century ago they realized there are not two sides to lynching.

Either we are all born, or if you prefer created, equal or we are not. Anyone who says some people are not entitled to equality under the law is motivated by belief those others are inferior humans or not human at all. That view goes against the founding documents of this country, not to mention the alleged words of the Jesus they claim to worship.
