Why No Video Review?

I was at tonights game. Did the TV broadcast mention anything about why there was no video review of Lillard coming back in bounds. I'm fucking pumped at the final result obviously but still confused by refs decision on that play. Is there a rule on whats reviewable that prevented refs to check?

They can review if it is deciding who touched the ball last. It's not reviewable to see if a player had established or not. I think they need to make an addendum to that rule... it's a dead ball situation, and can be given to the rightful team if a decision is made, just like who touched it last... so hopefully it does.

They need to change a lot of the rules, a big one being goaltending. I know it slows down the game, but these calls need to be right because they could be a huge game changing play. This is why the NBA sucks and will continue too until the review system is changed.

I think during breaks they should be able to review goaltends if the team requests a look. Sort of like how they do questionable 3s.

I don't think that works, because if you block it there is a transition game. If it should have been a goaltend, what do you do? Count the bucket and don't adjust for the transition? If it should not have been a goaltend, but it was called a goaltend, how do you remedy that? Again there is a transition game or an opportunity for the offensive team to catch the carom and play off of it.

My guess is anything that will stop/slow down the game is trying to be avoided. The amount of time it takes in the NFL really kills the experience IMO.

I still don't really understand why it can't be reviewed under the whether a player was out of bounds aspect. If you can review whether I stepped out of bounds, can't you review whether I was in fact in bounds?

That should be changed I think. Last night I kind of wondered whether Robin Lopez touched the ball when he was out of bounds right before Parsons scores a hoop with .9 seconds left.

Just one per half? I would give them up to 2 challenges only for the last two minutes of the 2nd & 4th quarter.

No reason why the call shouldn't be reviewable. All the talk of league officials about "slowing down the game" is bullshit because they slow down the game by calling all this ticky-tac crap and buying flops.

As far as reviewing goaltends, you could have a challenge system. Each coach has two challenges per half where they can press a buzzer, stop play and ask for a review. If they lose the challenge, they lose a time out. You could even say that if you lose a challenge, or use it inappropriately, it's a technical foul and change of possession. That would cause teams to only use it for really obvious goofs.

A technical is too drastic for losing a challenge. Why reward the team with a freebie point because of a close review that you may ultimately lose. Losing a timeout is fine enough considering they are key in the last two minutes so you can advance the ball.

Goaltends could just be reviewed the way they look at 3 pointers at the next dead ball situation. Check the video and if it was goaltending the team gets two points added to the score.

Who the ball went off last and whether they were established back inbounds seems like a distinction without a difference as they both result in a dead ball out of bounds. Rule should defiantly be switched to include re-establishment.
