Why not start Maglore on opneing night?

I don't understand this. We're willing to start Malik Allen on opening night against the Bulls yet bench Magloire? How do we expect him to fit in with this team if we keep denying him the chance to learn the system here and find where he belongs. Hell, atleast start him in the first preseason game. Malik may have played well but the Nets willl be in trouble if they are relying on him to make big contributions, they need Magloire.</p>

The Bulls will start Ben Wallace at center and either Tyrus Thomas or Joe Smith at PF. Collins on Wallace is a good matchup. As for PF . . . why not (cough-cough) Boki? Great, so some of you are worried that he can't matchup against the bruising PFs in the league. Tyrus Thomas is listed at 6'9", 215; Smith is listed at 6'10", 225. Boki? Listed at 6'9", 220. If there was ever a good time for him to start, this is probably it.</p>

Malik is faster than Magloire, more mobile than Magloire and can score outside of two feet from the basket.</p>

Starting Twin and Magloire together is about as dumb as starting Ron Mercer and Rodney Buford together.</p>

Allen is capable of nailing the 15 footer from the free throw line. He knows there will be wide open opportunities for those spot ups with Kidd and VC's spot up/post up ability. Magloire is a post up offensive paint player, he is great in the half court with a guy like Allen.....inside outside game. With Collins starting, Magloire is definitely not the right match with Collins. </p>

Why? He is a lesser defender than Twin and his passing sucks.</p>

In order for Magloire to score, he needs to be spoon feed the ball which is rather pointless when all of Kidd, RJ & Vince are on the floor.</p>

Ah, I see. I was skimming and just read Magloire should be starting with the big 3 since the thread is talking about the opening game of the regular season against the Bulls. What makes you think they won't be playing in that game?</p>

As for playing with the big three, he should start if he can operate in an active offense instead of just hunkering down in the post. I still have faith that he should be starting with Krstic a month or so into the season.</p>

...and too add to that, Collins was on those teams that went to the finals. You know, the one that used the Princeton offense. So he'd probably have the advantage over nearly any other big of knowing to to play in an active offense.</p>

IF Collins-Moore-RJ-VC-Kidd can't match up Cavs well,</p>

how could we expect Collins-Allen-RJ-VC-Kidd, unless Allen is better than Moore, but they are similar.</p>

We should try something new to fresh the starting lineup, we have many strong big men on the bench than last season though.</p>

Yeah we've gotten away with winning without rebounding, but not against better teams. While Magloire might not have down setting-picks as well as Collins, he adds so much more to this team. I really feel that once he gets accustomed to our offense he'll start over Collins later in the season.</p>

i dont think we should start magloire because eventually he will be moved back to the bench and im not sure how he would handle it. im sure he would be upset, but how he reacts is my concern. would he bitch about it and cause a problem? idk possibly. i rather boone, but i wouldnt mind malik as well. both those guys know their roles and wouldnt have any problem going from starter to bench. they both know their roles are bench players where magloire came out once he signed with us saying he came here to start and thinks he can. if you give him krstic's spot then you might have inflated his ego where he thought he deserved it more than he actually did. i dont see frank starting him unless he really has a solid preseason, especially when he plays with the big3 and im sure the big 3 plus twin at some point at the end of preseason. if they play effective as a group then so be it, just let him know that once krstic is ready he will return to the starting line up and mags will move to the bench. if he agrees then let him start, if you dont think he would be happy then keep him on the bench from day one.</p>

Malik Allen is no speed demon himself here and he isn't a very good rebounder. Outside of jumpshooting, (which is the last thing we need with our starting 5) Magloire has the advantage in every which way over Malik. We could also use his post game. Having Malik on Tyrus isn't a good mathcup for us either.</p>

But Magloire would rebound and score down low. Malik Alllen is undersized. If not Magloire, then atleast start Boone over Malik.</p>

If we're starting Collins and Nenad isn't 100 percent, you have to start Allen. We don't need jumpshooting in our first lineup of bigs? How many times was Mikki Moore open for jumpers last season I mean come on. Sure we're changing our offense but that will always be available for our bigmen. You need a guy to knock that down.</p>

Boki is our only surefire offense off the bench and putting him in a starting lineup with Wright, Armstring, Boone, Big Cat as the reserves is downright enemic and would in my mind only lead to overextending Carter or Kidd as RJ can be easier to load up on and destroy a unit surrounded by those guys.</p>

Tyrus may be improved and more athletic but Malik played him for an entire season in practice last year and knows the kid better than anybody on the Nets. We've always been a cerebral team to make up for our physical or roster inadaquacies I don't see why any of that would change now, making Allen the perfect fit in the starting lineup against his former squad.</p>

Killing Thomas' confidence early on is key because we know Gordon, Hinrich, and Deng are gonna do so we have to make sure that's all we see and that we stick to the plan of letting their stars get theirs as Nocioni always seems to have our number as well. Those four alone can provide enugh headaches but with Collins on Ben and Malik on Tyrus we stand a pretty good chance to get the w's.</p>
