Why trade Rudy?

He may be one of the worst defensive players in the game.

Last night he was 2-7 on FG % and -2 for game against the Clips. He also had zero assists.

The guy is terrible. If this is "high", I hate to see low.

Rudy had 3 steals vs Phoenix. He is also shooting 50% from the three point line so far this season. He's not all bad.

Don't get me wrong, I still think Rudy is gone. I think he's playing his value up and once we get a deal we like, he's gone. I think Miller is gone too. I wouldn't be surprised if a major trade is made before the deadline. The only possible barrier might be if we're playing extremely well and Cho doesn't want to mess with our chemistry. If we're at the top of the league and playing at a high level, I don't think the FO would want to mess with a good thing. That's why the Bayless trade was made BEFORE the season started.

I think this really depends on the nature of the potential deal. If it's really good, Cho should not turn it down. Take LA with Gasol for instance. They were leading the west before they made the Gasol trade, and did not affect their chemistry much.

Really? I just can't settle for a player with THAT crappy of D. Now when it makes other players work that much harder, creates turns in momentum and was one of the major reason for a past series loss in the playoffs.

Roy has played worse D than Rudy in our two games so far.

I guess, for me, bball comes down to scoring more points than the other team. You allow 30, but score 31, WIN. Kiki V. was that way - terrible D, but a scorer. Rudy is just plain terrible on D and an adequate shooter (I know, he lead the league once...). Get rid of him.

Rudy isn't the best defender but he has been hustling and going a lot of stuff that isn't just hitting the three (which he did a hell of a lot in the preseason and last season before he got injured and came back as a shell of what he was). He gets a lot of steals and hasn't just been letting his defensive assignment blow past him as he was in the past. He can handle the ball make some nice passes and hasn't just been standing around waiting for the ball on O, he has actually been moving around to try and get open.
Comparing Rudy to how he was playing at the end of last year and how he is playing now is like comparing two polar opposites.

I don't know, guys. It just seems he's out of position, needs help and gets burned when mediocre players drive to the basket on him. I don't think the liability is worth the reward.

We've given up so many of our three point shooters though.... Blake, Outlaw, Webster, etc. Who on this team is consistent shooting the longball?

Roy? No.

Matthews? Not sure yet.

Batum? Maybe.

Definitely not Miller or Johnson. I think we need Rudy for now, unless we add another bomber for the perimeter.

I agree with this. I think this is the biggest argument against trading Rudy at this point. He opens up the court for his teammates. The defense has to respect his 3 point shot and he's a good passer as well. He fits very well into the current make-up of the team imo.

Yes, and I think that's why Cho has been so steadfast in his stance towards Rudy. If he's going to trade him, he wants good value back in return. I think at this point they will hold onto him until they can get something that really benefits the team.

Matthews was a 38% from downtown last year with Utah and proved during preseaon he has range.

Batum was a 41% from beyond the arc.

That's pretty consistent outside shooting to me. That said, I think we should keep Rudy around (as long as he's not being a bitch) because everybody needs outside shooting.

I think it's too early to know whether they were an aberration. Matthews was playing with Deron Williams under a different offense, and Batum barely played last season. If they are able to consistently show us that they can hit the three this season, I will be more willing to concede that point.
