Why would mankind make up a book that condemns us so much with such lofty standards?

The Holy Bible is obviously what I'm referring to here.

Are you asking why the Bible exists, or are you asking why the morality laid forth in the Bible contrasts with your lifestyle?

Your thread title indicates the former, but the tone indicates the latter.

I believe the bible is God's word but this argument is not sound. One could easily say, "when you make rules that no one can follow, your sheep must always follow you"

A man could make these laws so man will feel despair and stay with their church, sect, etc. they would feel like their only chance of afterlife is to follow the laws of their religion.

This is why I admire Jesus Christ. That you will be fully redeemed and won't need church or a high priest to get you into heaven.

Why was the Quran written? Why did L Ron Hubbard create Scientology? Why do Americans thing Jesus is white, Hindus think their gods are Indian, the Norse gods Nordic, and the Jews are the chosen people?
