Wilcox headed to Knicks?

One day after Oklahoma City voided its trade for Tyson Chandler, the Thunder have neared an agreement to send center Chris Wilcox for forward Malik Rose, an Eastern Conference executive said.

Hughes traded to Knicks

The Chicago Bulls have reached agreement to trade guard Larry Hughes to the New York Knicks for Tim Thomas and Jerome James, two NBA executives said.

They really couldn't take on Jeffries?

Anyway, it's an alright trade. I just wonder how it is going to affect chemistry. Don't we have enough players with ill-advised shot selection? At least Hughes brings defense though.

I don't know too much about Wilcox, but if he plays a lick of interior defense it's a good trade. Not to mention Rose was also riding the pine mostly.

Neither play defense, but Wilcox is a decent finisher.

I don't understand the trade for the Thunder. Malik and Wilcox are both expiring so why trade the better player for the worse one? Is Wilcox a poor locker room presence? Are they trying to open up space for other players?

Hughes does not bring defense, MrJ. It is so overrated.

That's funny, I always remembered Hughes as a good defender. I haven't been following him lately, but he was pretty good with the Wizards. His early Cavs days he was decent, also.

I followed the Wizards' die hard when he was with them. He wasn't good. He just got a lot of steals because he gambled a lot. Similar to Smush Parker. :]

Someone took Jerome James. Haha.

One by one Isiah's clowns are being show the door. Love it.

haha. I remember those days. It was also that time you swore Kwame Brown would do well in Los Angeles too!!! JBB!

The Knicks included cash in the deal to cover the remainder of Malik's contract. I think the owner of the Thunder has some seriour financial problems. The fact they rescinded the Chandler trade because of a bullshit toe injury doesn't add up. I think Presti arranged the trade and the owner stepped over his deal and vetoed it because he didn't want to pay Chandler's salary.

Then they turnaround and deal for a less talented player in Malik Rose. There was an article a week ago about the co-partner of the Thunder was trying to raise cash selling off his wine collection.

From the Wall Street Journal's Robert Frank comes word of a wine auction. By the look of things in the comments, that auction is very interesting to angry people in Seattle. That's because it appears to be an effort for controversial Thunder co-owner Aubrey McClendon to raise some cash. (I say controversial, because McClendon famously implied, on the record, that the Thunder ownership group never intended to keep the team in Seattle, despite having signed documents saying they would do so. He also stoked venom by helping to finance various anti-gay marriage initiatives, and that "Swift Boat" campaign against John Kerry.) Frank writes:

According to three people familiar with the auction, the seller is Aubrey McClendon, chief executive of Chesapeake Energy. These people say at least one other broker kicked the tires on Mr. McClendon's collection before it went to Sotheby's.

Mr. McClendon is one of the top wine collectors in the country, known for his love of Burgundy and Bordeaux. He also is known for his cash crunch. Last fall, he was forced to sell 94% of his stake in Chesapeake to pay back margin loans. Mr. McClendon's stake once was valued at more than $2 billion. So it wouldn't be surprising if he were to want to liquidate some of his, er, liquid assets.

Mr. McClendon, through a spokesman, didn't respond to a request for comment.

Sotheby's says it expects the sale to fetch at least $5 million -- not much for a former billionaire, but these days every little million helps.

Solid trades!!

They traded away four useless players for two useful ones. NY's rotation was tight, so I think it will help team chemistry to get rid of a few bodies while upgrading the 10 man rotation. Looks even better when you figure how little extra salary the trades bring on.
