Wild Ass Consolidation Trade Idea...

Am I dating myself if I say this trade vaguely reminds me of the Kiki Vandeweghe trade in which we gave half our team to Denver and left me wanting to eat my liver every time we played the Nugs? It was danged painful watching Lever for a lot of years, plus I really liked Calvin Natt. Yeah, I'm dating myself. Dang it. Where did the years go?

Look at the mug on this guy - see avatar.

You want to trade him?

Not really, everybody loves Roy, and with good reason. He's a great player, a great leader and an all around good guy. I like everything about Brandon, but this team seriously needs to consolidate some talent. I knew I'd get torched big time for bringing it up, so I planned ahead and put on my asbestos LJ's.:bgrin:

I thought this trade would provide an serious impact player at our weakest position. I might be wrong, not being a CBA expert, but I think this leaves our cap space in good shape.

When Webs comes back, PT is going to be at a premium, and someone's not going to be happy. General consensus around these parts is that PG would be the best place to upgrade with a consolidation, and I don't think there's a better young PG than Rose. A team with a great PG paired with a great C is damned hard to beat. We would have top tier role players surrounding those two, with skills that compliment them.

I was really into finding a way to luck into Rose with the lotto (didn't happen) or trade up to get him. He was my #1 (he he) choice for our team a long ways off from the draft. I baaaadly wanted defense and good size at the 1 spot. Once we lost the lotto and he vaulted up the draft board, that dream died.

I remember that you were hot for Rose before the draft. Under this trade the dream doesn't die.:deadhorse:

I love the idea of trading for Rose. But, you don't trade one good young guard for another. There is little point to it.

I hear what you're saying, but this is a case where we have another player nearly as good (maybe just as good), to step into Roy's spot.

Instead, consider trading Aldridge for Rose. That is a "stupid" big for small trade, but the only way to get Chicago to even think about it.

I really considered that, because it would cost us less in talent to get Rose. I think the Bulls would love to get a really good big, but I don't think LA would enough by himself. (Not that that is what you said.) Where I keep getting hung up is that I think the dropoff in talent going from LA to CF is significantly greater than the dropoff going from Roy to Rudy. I choked nearly as hard on giving up Joel, given that Greg hasn't proven he can stay healthy, but CHI would need a big out of the deal. (IMO, Greg just went through a rough patch, and he's going to not only fine, but great.)

Then use the cap space this summer to sign a FA power forward. Boozer, Odom, Marion, Marvin Williams, Milsap and David Lee among others are free agents. Or in a lopsided money trade players like AK-47 & Diaw might be available.

Look how many real good young points are in the NBA. Few. Look how many real good young power forwards are in the NBA. A bit more than a few. It is a bit easier to get another decent power forward than point guard.

Rose/Roy/Rudy

RRR - The best 3 guard rotation in the NBA. Dear god.

That would be an awesome backcourt rotation. You would have to have faith that you could get a Boozer/Lee level PF in the FA market. It that didn't happen I think we would miss LA, a lot.

Anyway, thanks for the well-thought-out reply Masbee, it's a better read than some of the more concise "You SUCK" replies I got above.

Well you arent gonna be a "great" team...you are gonna be a good team. Im serious when I say I like this trade

I was hoping to hear some reply's from fans of other teams.

Thanks

LOL. You would have to trade 2 of 4 of Brandon Roy, Rudy Fernandez, Greg Oden, and LaMarcus Aldridge to get Derrick Rose, and that's the conservative estimate of what it'll take. Definitely not that package.

I knew that Bull's fans would want more, but no way would you get the 2/4 you're looking for. Like Minstrel said, this isn't happening from either side.

The ONLY reason I would consider Roy is because we have Rudy.

Hmm... I'm not sure how I feel. Is Rudy as good as Roy? Not yet. Will he be? There's a chance. I see a real chance at some point that one or the other will have to go. They're both very talented players in their own right. I think Rudy is a more explosive scorer. More flashy. Roy has something about him though... He does amazing things when the game is on the line. That's rare. Roy is the type of player that wins championships. Would I like to get Rose? Yes. Would I want to mortgage half our team to do it? I don't know. I could trade Blake without losing any sleep, and Outlaw seems expendable to me, but Joel is one guy I would like to keep around. I'm just not sure how I feel about this trade.

The team after the trade would suck but it would be a lot worse then before the trade. There is no way KP even listens to that trade.:sigh:

Maybe. But the better play at PG just might be a bigger impact than the dropoff going from Roy to Rudy. Rudy is the real deal, IMO.

But Roy is the real deal too, and we know that for sure.

Which is exactly why a trade for Derrick Rose won't happen. You don't get superstars like Rose at peak value. Look at how long it took for Kevin Garnett to get traded, and they still got a 20-10 player for him.

I could see the Blazers offering Fernandez/Aldridge as a 2/4 package...but again, that is the one combination of 2/4 that I can't see the Bulls taking, since the Blazers aren't giving up one of their top tier trade value guys (Oden/Roy), and just two second tier guys (Fernandez/Aldridge).

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like Rudy gets frustrated when he runs the court, or through several picks to get open, then Brandon doesn't see him and goes to the rim himself. That worries me that the chemistry could go sideways down the road.

It doesn't seem to me like we'd be mortgaging half the team though. We'd still have Greg, LA and Rudy to go along with a great young point. PG's usually take time to develop. Rose is an excellent point right out of the gate. I have not doubt that he's going to be special.

I have a tough time putting Joel in the package, too. If they would take Frye, I'd be more than happy to swap him for Joel. (I didn't run that through trade checker, it might not work, or would require swapping another player(s).

Wow.
