Will NIC get extended by Jan. 23? if yes how much?

One more good game from him in ATL might make it a guarantee. I think PA will go up to 40.

I have a feeling they may let him get an offer and match it, hoping that it saves $, and not result in a toxic offer backfire.

no, the brass wants to remain flexible this offseason to be able to land a max guy

Postponing his extension will not give us more space this summer.

His caphold if we don't extend him will be ~9 mil (unless we waive his bird rights, which we won't do).

I don't believe this is correct, his salary right now is barely over $2 million and in the new CBA cap holds are less.

I'd rather see us wait with a Batum extension unless he gives us a discount around the max MLE range. Sorry but 2 great games doesn't make up for years of crappy 8ppg play in the playoffs.

ahh You're right. It's 6.5 mil. 300% of his current salary.

Nice, so we can follow the Clippers blueprint; they traded for Chris Paul, signed Caron Butler, claimed Chauncy Billups off amnesty waivers, THEN matched the offer sheet for DeAndre Jordan.

We could try to bring in a superstar like Deron Williams, sign a free agent big man, claim an amnesty waiver player such as Rashard Lewis THEN match an offer sheet for Batum.

I’m all for keeping Batum here in the long-term, but there is no rush to extend him right now unless the team gets a good discount in doing so.

I wasn't aware that they had changed.

Edit: Okay, they did: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/CBA-111128/how-new-nba-deal-compares-last-one

• 2005 CBA: A cap hold of 150 percent to 300 percent continues to count against the team's cap for its free agents who have Bird rights or were first-round picks. A team has seven days to match an offer sheet to its restricted free agent. Qualifying offers to restricted free agents are based on the player's draft position.

• 2011 CBA: Cap holds are reduced for most players who have Bird rights or were first-round picks, and now range from 150 percent to 250 percent. Teams have three days to match an offer sheet to its restricted free agent. Players can qualify for a better qualifying offer by meeting certain criteria. High-drafted players might receive a lower qualifying offer by failing to meet the same criteria.

So that means about 5.4 instead.

I say no. I think the team still hasn't made up their mind about what direction they want to go in ... or maybe more accurately some, people are in favor of shedding older players in favor of younger ones, while some want to invest heavily in Wallace and the like.

In all likelihood, he'll hit restricted free agency, some team will offer him 4 years 7-8 million per and the Blazers will have to decide if they want to match ... and I have absolutely no idea if they will or won't.

Ok guys, if we decide to wait and match this summer what do you think is the highest offer is he might get? 40 mil - 4 at 10 per sound about right?

Dunno how this one will play out. I suspect it will end up biting the Blazers in the butt if they don't do a deal before the deadline. I can see a team like the Jazz giving the Blazers a little payback with a front-loaded offer. Ultimately, I think the Blazers will have to decide between Wallace and Batum. I can't imagine them deciding to go with Wallace, at his age, over Nic, but I guess crazier things have happened in Blazerville.

That seems a little bit high ... given his age and production his first three years in the league, plus the parameters of the new CBA ... I dunno, 8 million per year is probably the upper limit, but you never know.

Wow that much? I don't agree. That's about 9.2 million per year. I am thinking about hoping it's around the same amount as Wes Matthews. Maybe front loaded please.

He'll get AT LEAST Arron Afflalo money, I can guarantee it. 5 years 43 million. He might get more.

I'm not fully up to speed on the new CBA rules, but I'm pretty sure that the only team that can offer him 5 years is the Blazers.

This guy will blossom. Barely older then Luke, Nolan and Elliot! We can't afford to lose him in my opinion.

No I get that, I don't agree with it. I still think 6.5-7.5 should be the threshold.

I guess it all depends on the kind of year he ends up having. Right now, he's doing two things at an elite level for the small forward position. That's block shots (and his overall defense is pretty good too) and shoot the three ball ... teams will frequently pay a premium for a guy who can do that.

He's also ignored on offense despite being more than adequate doing things other than shooting threes. Teams will scout that and pay him accordingly.

Yeah I know, I was just talking about those things that are most tangible and easy to bank on.

I must admit that his defensive is very impressive this season. His blocks are "star quality". He keeps that up, he will demand much more.

like i saig Mags - 30-35 mil

lot of guys got overpaid this last FA, just think that a lot more teams have a lot more money this coming summer. Nic is young and still has good upside, I think my numbers are about right and we could easily have to pay 9-10 mil per yr if he gets to be an RFA

33.7 0.498 0.423 0.847 0.7 3.0 3.6 2.4 0.5 0.4 1.03 2.22 12.6 those are Afflalo's numbers when he recently got paid 5 yrs 43 mil. Nic has significantly less minutes right now and compares very well

Nic averages better numbers than Afflalo in fewer minutes while being 3 years younger. He should be paid more than AA.
