Will the new President make Oregon great again?

Trump has said from the beginning we are going to rebuild our infrastructure, which will create jobs as a side benefit.

No, Trump has said, it's on his website, that he will rebuild our infrastructure through privatization.

Beautiful Central Oregon won't be so beautiful when it's filled with toll booths and billboards.

Our infrastructure has lagged since the late 50s....after world war 2 the Japanese and Germans retooled their infrastructure after a pretty serious demolition...we hung on to industrial age machinery and they were way past most of that...some infrastructure changes that would make huge improvements would require moving a lot of wealthy people from their beachfront homes....not going to happen soon..my father worked building expansion bridges just out of the war to save money and get married....those bridges are still there...unchanged since before I was born

I can tell you that for at least a generation it has had no real "commercial" use or value.

Really? I didn't know this. Is this why Obama is not answering? Does Hillary know this too?

"A letter signed by two U.S. senators and four members of Congress was sent to President Barack Obama last week, urging funding for a “disposition study” at the Willamette Falls Locks.
The letter is the latest step in an effort to re-open the locks. Once an oft-used pathway on the Willamette River for freightage and recreation alike, the locks — located adjacent to West Linn Paper Company — were closed three years ago by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), which cited “extensive corrosion” and a lack of proper funding to keep the locks open for operation."

I should think he could at least tell people. (I don't think he even answered).

Gosh, it seems this progression to dereliction is happening all over the country.

Ha! Progression to dereliction! Seem like a prime example of Progressives in action.

I traveled most of the waterways in the State this summer, it was apparent every where. State of Washington too, but I can't say I saw most of it, in that State.

Perhaps someone can help me out. I don't seem to understand, what was valuable, for many years, now becomes of no value. How the hell does this happen, but only here???
All over the East Coast, canals and waterways are cherished for providing access to thousands of properties via boat, to owners, cruisers, and tourists. They have value there, why the hell not here??? One thing I do understand, if it doesn't work, it will help no one create value.

Sigh! when I look at that beautiful river, that runs right through the middle of Portland, I see a jewel. It should be a treasure to boast about, to attract visitors, cruisers, a destination with marine parks all along the shore. From Portland to Eugene and farther for small craft. It could be a delightful cruise with just a little infrastructure.
No Value??? Please.

Maybe you need to make a stronger effort to digest what I wrote. The locks were closed because of corrosion (a safety hazard) due to lack of maintenance. The locks have not been used...even when operating....for much if any commerce for years. Trucking goods is more efficient and economically feasible. As I pointed out, it was mainly used for recreation. As far as a disposition study goes, "disposition" means what do they do with it. Do they repair it, abandon it or demolish it? That is yet to be determined. And as I noted, no one in any real position of power (namely a Republican dominated Congress) has been interested in putting any money into it. Senators and Representatives might impress the folks back home but in Washington they're still fairly small beer, especially when from a "podunk" state that doesn't carry much weight. No one outside the state cares about one little lock that, at least in their minds is nothing more than a regional toy for recreational boaters. I'm on your side on this particular issue. I'm just trying to point out the reality of why nothing has been done.

info regarding: Statewide Ports

Thanks Hobbes.
"
The navigation channel and ocean bar
crossings of most coastal river mouths and
bays must be dredged periodically to maintain
their depths due to natural buildup of silt
deposits. Coastal jetties also require periodic
maintenance in order to protect navigational
access to smaller ports and harbors. Federal
funding for maintenance dredging of many of
Oregon’s shallow-draft fishing ports is
threatened annually with reduction or
elimination
."

I can vouch for this fact. They are flat out dangerous when not maintained.
